Fifty top skiers over the age of 35 from the United States, Canada and Europe will battle in a head to head water ski competition near Denver, Colorado on August 28th and 29th, 2010.
The second qualifier for the Big Dawg competition will be at Laku Landing in Windsor, Colorado and will feature Big Dawg skiers on Lake 1 in
addition to a class C slalom event for local Colorado Skiers and Big Dawg
contestant family members on Lake 2.
Laku Landing is a competition water ski site located in Windsor, Colorado, near
Fort Collins. Laku consists of two lakes, the first completed in 1991, the second in
1994. The property is run by the Laku Tournament Water Ski Association (LTWSA),
and is the host of several sanctioned tournaments a year.
Ben Favret, Dave Miller, Chet Raley, Todd Johnson, and Bruce Dodd are among the top skiers on the list competing at Laku for a chance at the finals for the $12,000 purse to be held at Isles of Hancock in Orlando, Florida on September 25th and 26th.
The Laku Landing members are planning a BBQ dinner and musical entertainment on site Saturday
evening…BBQ Ribs and Chicken…a fun event you won’t want to miss!
The O’Brien Big Dawg Slalom Series, presented by Nautiques, consists of two qualifying events and a
series championship. The series, now in its fifth season, is open to slalom skiers 35 years of age or older
who have not placed in the top 10 in a professional tournament in the past three years.
Each qualifying event, as well as the series championship, includes two rounds of 34 mph record-
capability slalom action, followed by a bracketed 16-skier head-to-head finale. In the head-to-head format,
the top seed has the option of skiing first or second, but whoever goes out second has to beat the first
skier’s score (ties go to the skier who opts to ski first). The top-16 placements from each qualifying event
automatically qualify for the series championship.
Thanks to Obrien and Nautique and the many sponsors who make this event possible.
