New Festival to Make Big Splash in Orlando this Fall

Orlando, Fla. (May 14, 2012) – Combining extreme sports, family-friendly entertainment and music in the world capital of water skiing, soaked is a new extreme water sports festival coming to Orlando September 7-8, 2012. Taking over downtown Orlando’s iconic centerpiece, Lake Eola, the festival will feature world champion water skiers competing for the sport’s largest purse - $100,000, along with music, motor shows, carnival rides, great food, and more.

Some of the best athletes from around the word will hit the lake during the day for wake boarding and slalom skiing competitions. While in the evening, the grand finale will be a spectacular Night Jump set on an illuminated Lake Eola. Jumpers brave speeds up to 35mph and then execute soaring leaps that can reach over 200 feet high. USA Water Ski, the national governing body of organized water skiing in the United States, will sanction the slalom and night jumping competitions.

soaked is putting water skiing in the world ranking in terms of both competition and spectator engagement,” said festival organizer Paul Lovett of Incognitus. “It’s a unique combination of sports, music and entertainment in a perfect setting, Lake Eola in Orlando.”

“The City of Orlando is excited to host soaked this fall and bring our residents another entertainment option and provide continued economic impact to our local businesses in Downtown Orlando,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.  “Just last spring we hosted the top basketball players in the world at the NBA All-Star Game here in Downtown at the Amway Center and now we will host the best water-ski jumpers from all over the world.  These types of events continue to help us solidify Downtown Orlando as a destination with events and offerings for everyone.”  Said Buddy Dyer, City of Orlando, Mayor.

In addition to the water sports competition the festival will include stages for concerts, car shows, motorcycle shows, carnival rides, kid attractions, and food and beverage stations. Tickets will cost $15 per day and can be purchased at soakedorlando.com.

"The Orlando area is one of the premier locations in the world for professional water skiers," said professional water skier, Ryan Dodd.  "So it's particularly exciting for us as athletes to have the chance to compete in our own backyard.  Given the unique aspects of the festival, we will be able to compete in a way that is extremely entertaining for spectators."
