Intro
The GT is the latest in a long line of skis from Connelly whose design heritage can be directly linked to the Connelly F1 that Jamie Beauchesne rode to the top of the slalom world a decade ago. The F1 evolved into the Prophecy. The first generation Prophecy (2008) was an aggressive and quirky ski. By 2013, the Prophecy had evolved into a much more refined and balanced ski. In 2015, the Prophecy was reworked to become the GT. Below is the BallOfSpray review of the 2016 Connelly GT.
%20Turn</strong><br%20/>The%20off%20side%20turn%20on%20the%20GT%20is%20one%20of%20the%20great%20joys%20of%20water%20skiing.%20The%20stability%20of%20the%20ski%20makes%20it%20easy%20for%20the%20skier%20to%20move%20forward%20approaching%20the%20buoy,%20to%20arc%20in%20early,%20and%20to%20carry%20ample%20speed%20back%20to%20the%20wakes.</p><p>The%20GT%20is%20far%20less%20sensitive%20to%20weight%20distribution%20approaching%20Off%20Side%20than%20any%20ski%20previously%20tested%20from%20Connelly.</p><p><strong>Heel%20Side%20(On%20Side)%20Turn</strong><br%20/>On%20Side%20turns%20on%20the%20GT%20are%20noticeably%20quicker%20and%20sharper%20than%20the%20Prophecy.%20The%20ski%20can%20be%20turned%20with%20the%20skier's%20weight%20slightly%20farther%20back%20than%20expected.%20The%20ski%20is%20so%20forgiving%20approaching%20on%20side%20that%20skiers%20need%20to%20be%20too%20careful%20to%20not%20become%20accustomed%20to%20staying%20back.</p><p></strong></p><p>%C2%A0</p><p><strong>From%20Second%20Wake%20to%20Ball</strong><br>The%20fact%20that%20the%20GT%20rides%20deep%20in%20the%20water%20means%20that%20the%20ski%20is%20stable%20from%20the%20second%20wake%20to%20the%20ball%20and%20that%20it%20bleeds%20speed%20very%20quickly.%20The%20trade-off%20is%20that%20without%20adequate%20body%20alignment%20at%20the%20wakes%20and%20rope%20tension%20(aka%20%E2%80%9Cconnection%E2%80%9D%20or%20%E2%80%9Chandle%20control%E2%80%9D)%20through%20the%20edge%20change%20and%20out%20to%20the%20ball%20line,%20the%20GT%20may%20slow%20down%20faster%20than%20preferred%20and%20draw%20a%20narrow%20path%20to%20the%20ball.%20At%20longer%20rope%20lengths%20this%20behavior%20is%20unnoticeable,%20but%20as%20the%20rope%20approaches%2037%20%C2%BD%20feet%20in%20length,%20the%20skier%20needs%20to%20exert%20discipline%20and%20strength%20in%20order%20to%20achieve%20an%20optimal%20path%20from%20the%20wakes%20to%20the%20ball.</p><p>Provided%20the%20skier%20does%20exert%20the%20aforementioned%20rope%20tension%20and%20water%20speed%20is%20maintained,%20the%20GT%20will%20carve%20a%20smooth%20path%20wide%20and%20early%20in%20front%20of%20the%20ball.%20Skiers%20who%20do%20not%20maintain%20enough%20rope%20tension%20will%20find%20the%20path%20from%20ball%20to%20ball%20to%20be%20somewhat%20frantic.%20As%20forgiving%20as%20the%20ski%20is%20at%20the%20ball,%20it%20is%20equally%20unforgiving%20to%20poor%20rope%20tension%20from%20the%20wake%20to%20the%20ball.</p><p><strong>From%20Ball%20to%20Second%20Wake</strong><br>The%20GT%20is%20more%20of%20a%20stable%20ski%20than%20a%20fast%20ski.%20The%20strength%20of%20this%20ski%20is%20its%20ability%20turn%20and%20carry%20speed%20back%20to%20the%20inside.%20It%20does%20not%20generate%20as%20much%20additional%20speed%20from%20the%20ball%20to%20the%20wakes%20as%20many%20other%20skis%20in%20the%20category.</p><p><strong>Conclusion</strong><br>In%20a%20perfect%20world,%20the%20best%20turning%20ski%20would%20also%20be%20the%20ski%20that%20gets%20widest%20with%20the%20least%20effort.%20In%20the%20real%20world,%20ski%20designers%20have%20to%20compromise.%20The%20GT%20is%20a%20fantastic%20turning%20ski%20because%20it%20rides%20deep.%20The%20trade-off%20is%20that%20it%20is%20not%20the%20fastest%20high%20end%20ski.%20At%2035%20off%20and%20beyond,%20skiers%20that%20excel%20at%20keeping%20a%20tight%20line%20to%20the%20ball%20will%20love%20this%20ski,%20and%20skiers%20who%20struggle%20with%20this%20skill%20will%20struggle%20with%20this%20ski.</p><p><strong>Quirks</strong><br>The%20fin%20box%20is%20an%20old%20school%20design%20that%20is%20a%20bit%20painful%20to%20use.%20A%20new%20fin%20box%20from%20Connelly%20has%20been%20promised%20soon.</p><p>Binding%20placement%20and%20fin%20settings%20are%20critical%20for%20all%20high%20end%20tournament%20skis.%20Some%20skis%20are%20more%20sensitive%20than%20others.%20The%20GT%20is%20surprisingly%20insensitive%20to%20settings.%20This%20does%20not%20mean%20that%20you%20can%20put%20the%20fin%20and%20bindings%20anywhere%20without%20consequence,%20but%20the%20margin%20of%20error%20is%20remarkable.</p></body></html>)
