Hi Dose any one know why perfect pass isn't perfect!!!!! What is with naked piggybacked wire in the harnes /display? This display keeps craping out going black and not registering! Please some one help me before I write a big artical in a popular ski mag telling readers this system sucks balls of spray!

The "blanking" problem is interference from something else in your instrument panel.  Are you driving a Malibu?  It is mentioned in the manual and on Malibu's has been found to be the depth finder.  If you reroute the display harness down through the furthest hole away from the depth finder it may clear it up.  You can verify this by disconnecting the depth finder temporarily.  Perfect Pass does a great job of troubleshooting with you if you call.  No need to bash, I'm sure it is something quite simple.

This fix probably bears repeating.

The earlier Perfect Pass units wanted a solid 12+ volts, and all thedraw from engine and other electrical stuff often taxes the alternatorto the point of sub-par output.  The easiest fix I could think of was a stand-alone power circuit using a relay via the ignition switch   By drawing directly from the batterywith largegauge wire you always have sufficient power for the PP unit (unlessyour battery is going to shit).  A manual on/off switch on the powerside of the direct-to-battery circuit would suffice, but the ignitionkey-switched NAPA relay is a much more elegant solution.

With this set up you can flip on the stereo (heater, running lights, whatever...) mid-course without the PP crapping out.
