Baller east tx skier Posted February 10, 2010 Baller Share Posted February 10, 2010 I know we have lots of global warming experts. But do we have any in house experts on solar flares? What do you guys make of this? Solar Flares and GPS
Old MS Accout
Not sure about the ZO issue but bring it on if it will warm up my lake. I will go back to 6.5 classic if I have to.
Thomas Wayne
I thought flares went out with the Bee Gees.http://www.atomretro.com/xlarge/black_denim_flares1.jpg TW
Baller ski6jones Posted February 10, 2010 Baller Share Posted February 10, 2010 Not a problem for me, PP classic doesn't care one bit.
Baller east tx skier Posted February 10, 2010 Author Baller Share Posted February 10, 2010 Alrighty. Seems we have a result---nobody is worried about it. 6.5 is just a button push away for me. Plus, if the boat thinks it's 10 meters fast, maybe I can catch a break. Over the past several years, I've read so much being made over .02 seconds difference in times. Glad to see the focus shift back behind the boat. Ski on!
Baller MattP Posted February 10, 2010 Baller Share Posted February 10, 2010 My brother is a "expert" on solar flares ill shoot him an email and see what he says.
Baller Ed_Obermeier Posted February 10, 2010 Baller Share Posted February 10, 2010 Maybe once per session (or less) my PP StarGazer will freak out in mid pass, lose signal, and start accellerating for no aparent reason. We blame it on something interferring with the signal i.e. solar flares, bad karma, whatever. Doesn't happen often but does occur resulting in a reride (it's practice, WTF?). Anyone else? FWIW I still think SG is the most user friendly speed control out there, I never go back to Classic mode.Ed
Baller_ RichardDoane Posted February 10, 2010 Baller_ Share Posted February 10, 2010 we've had great results lately using SG, and just leaving the crew weight at 100. It seems to "mellow out" any run away accelleration
Baller east tx skier Posted February 16, 2010 Author Baller Share Posted February 16, 2010 Mine rarely messes up a pass since the 2009 update. I haven't run classic mode since installing SG in 2008.
Baller EF Posted February 20, 2010 Baller Share Posted February 20, 2010 I just installed SG on my 03 CC. Does anyone have any input on getting everything up and running correctly? I went out to the river and tried the capture mode, which worked well up river, but not with current. it kept surging around 70 rpm or so??? Current is around 2mph? I'll be going to the course next for baselines.....Thanks for any suggestions!!
Baller east tx skier Posted February 24, 2010 Author Baller Share Posted February 24, 2010 What's capture mode? Last I heard from PP, there was no adjustment for river current.

Baller teammalibu Posted February 24, 2010 Baller Share Posted February 24, 2010 Sounds like Toyota should call Perfect Pass same issues I had on my LXI with the first 4 or 5 Stargazer modules I tried
Baller Deke Posted February 26, 2010 Baller Share Posted February 26, 2010 We had a discussion last summer about the speedup issue. For servo models on some boats it seems the "inverted tach" setting is needed to deal with a dirty rpm signal. This worked great for my '99 RLX. However, very infrequently, we'll enter the course slow as if never locked by GPS and then get an extreme correction a 3 ball. It's very rare, always at one end of the course, and we think it's only when spinning several passes. Capture mode is OK for getting things close but if your rpms are drifting up and down significantly, try "inverted tach" to see if it settles things down. My opinion is to use the regular calibrate mode. It doesn't not use the GPS, but times a virtual pass, so you can do it in open water. When you get good times both ways (watch out for wind), you're ready for GPS mode.
Baller Deke Posted February 26, 2010 Baller Share Posted February 26, 2010 Richard, It makes sense that the lighter crew weight would mellow the acceleration but it is more apt to make you slow during the first half of the course. That, in itself, will cause a speedup.
Baller_ RichardDoane Posted February 26, 2010 Baller_ Share Posted February 26, 2010 Deke - the Broho lake is a fairly short set up, so if the driver over does it coming into the 55's, then SG will slow down before the gate, but then have to speed up again at 3 ball. I think some of my GPS problems are induced by my not being smooth enough on reaching speed when coming off the island. Last week a crew weight of 200 worked even better.
