Baller lottawatta Posted September 15, 2010 Baller Posted September 15, 2010 Like the title says, is it possible to do a ZO conversion on an 04 Mastercraft (MCX, if that matters). My memory is weak, but I think DBW started in 04 MC promos and was in all 190's/197's in 05. I know the popular answer is no as ZO requires an 07 or later E-controls ECM. Does anyone know if it is possible to put a later ECM on an 04? Surely someone has investigated the possibility before? Thanks in advance for the info.
Baller thager Posted September 15, 2010 Baller Posted September 15, 2010 You would have to know that the 04 MCX is identical mechanically to at least the earliest version compatible with ZO i.e. same manifold, sensors, throttle body etc. When I converted my 02 196 I removed and replaced the throttle body, Throttle potentiometer, ECM, electrical harness, ZO and some mounting odds and ends. Compare everything on your engine to someone who has ZO installed on their MCX. Thought I saw a ZO head unit for sale on ebay (for S100.00)
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted September 15, 2010 Baller_ Posted September 15, 2010 The problem is that Indmar unlike PCM did not build nor design the E-control around a non Cat motor. The reason at this time that The PCM's can be retrofited is that all the parts from 2002 to 2006 are redilly available and can be installed like a 07-08. Their is not a Indmar ECM available, nor wiring harness that will work on the non cat MCX. 06-07 can be configured to accept ZO. I just set a 08 6 liter PCM 409 in a 05 PS 197 and am currently installing ZO. Their is a plan a-foot to utilize PCM componetry/ECM for the non cat Indmar but a fabed up wiring harnes will have to be made. This is going to happen next month here a FI.
Baller eleeski Posted September 16, 2010 Baller Posted September 16, 2010 My 04 MC 197 (UCSD's old promo boat) is a throttle cable boat. Lots of parts to convert. The boat works great with PP Classic and running a switch, KX- PX10 and running the baseline down so the skier weight is substantially higher simulates ZO.The UCSD 05 MC is DBW. Before the PP/ZO settlement, we were going to convert to ZO (the PP was horrible to drive on their boat). But we dawdled too long and are now told that the conversion can't be done. Maybe with a ton of new parts Jody can do it. A new boat or used recent ZO boat might be a better option. Or get one of the engineering students to rig PP Classic to the throttle handle instead of the finnicky PP DBW computer control. I love PP classic with a cable - and hate PP DBW.Eric
Baller thager Posted September 17, 2010 Baller Posted September 17, 2010 Eric, The throttle cable on my conversion stayed in the boat. There was no change out. Only difference is that instead of manually moving the shift & throttle body butterfly it moves the shift & throttle potentiometer and the ECM controls the TB opening. You don't need an electronic shift/throttle.
Baller Bdecker Posted September 21, 2010 Baller Posted September 21, 2010 Jody- if successful will you offer this as a kit for those of us with 05-06 MC's?Â
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted October 10, 2012 Baller_ Posted October 10, 2012 Scot I do have a complete pull off MCX induction and exhaust system, complete with wire harness and ECU off of an 08. Going to need about $3000,00 plus shipping.
