Malibuboats91 Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 As the ski season is almost half over for me, I feel it's time to get some new things I have been wanting. Right now I have like 6 rope and handle combos. The handle I like best is falling apart and I want to get a new one. I use the same handle for wakeboarding and slaloming so I switch between the different types of line depending on the sport. I have looked at Radar, Accurate and then a straightline rs handles. I'm not sure which one I really like though. What would you guys suggest? I like a soft grip on the handle and want something thats better than the standard combo handle. I'm also looking to replace my old HO gloves that are paper thin and about to tear. I was looking at the Masterline Pro Lock's but want some opinions as well. I'm hoping to get the stuff before I go up to the cottage next weekend, so help please! Thanks! Patrick
Baller kfennell Posted July 18, 2011 Baller Report Posted July 18, 2011 If I was going to use the gloves and handle for both skiing and wakeboarding I would get a 13" Radar Handle which has a really nice soft grip (most of them do we have a few here that are hard though, try before you buy if you can). I wouldn't get the locks for wakeboarding though, too likely to get hung up during a trick or fall, the old 3 finger Radar locks would be awesome if you could find them, however I don't know what to suggest now.
Malibuboats91 Posted July 18, 2011 Author Report Posted July 18, 2011 I typically only use the gloves for skiing. I will definitely check that handle out
Baller MCskiFreak Posted July 18, 2011 Baller Report Posted July 18, 2011 I just bought the new Radar Vice glove, like the Masterlines, and love them!
Malibuboats91 Posted July 18, 2011 Author Report Posted July 18, 2011 How was it getting use to them?
Baller kfennell Posted July 18, 2011 Baller Report Posted July 18, 2011 For me when I switched to the pro locks I immediately got better and actually picked up a pass, but thats because I am learning and cutting way too hard. No learning curve at all. Over 100 passes now and I have had 2 balls where I had a problem caused by the gloves.
Baller MCskiFreak Posted July 18, 2011 Baller Report Posted July 18, 2011 It took maybe two sets to feel comfortable with them, I had been using the 3 finger HO gloves for a long time though so that may have eased the transition.
Malibuboats91 Posted July 18, 2011 Author Report Posted July 18, 2011 I'm for sure going to pick up a pair. Now for handles it's between radar and masterline. Do you know anything about masterline handles? If so, are they soft?
Baller 454SS Posted July 19, 2011 Baller Report Posted July 19, 2011 I have a masterline monster handle and love it. Not sure what qualifies as a soft handle though.
Baller GAJ0004 Posted August 3, 2011 Baller Report Posted August 3, 2011 I just broke a Straightline Shadow handle. I have not had it a full year yet. I would get the If you like a 1.0'' handle get the Masterline Pro series monster handle instead of the custom. The custom is 20 dollars more, and is the same as the Pro series. I prefer to have the end caps to stop handle roll, and some padding if it flies back to the boat. Stay away from Straightline. They are crap now. They used to be a great product.
Baller UWSkier Posted August 3, 2011 Baller Report Posted August 3, 2011 I have had great luck with the combo of HO Clutch gloves and Straightline Radius Tractor grip... until this year. My gloves are too stretched out and I tore off my first callous in the past 4 years. Now I feel like a man without a country since nobody makes these gloves anymore. I hate Clinchers as I'm more of a palm gripper. Not sure what to do! My hands never hold up with normal gloves once the water is above 72 degrees or so.
Baller ski4xtc Posted August 4, 2011 Baller Report Posted August 4, 2011 This season I have found the best handle / glove combo yet. I am using the new Radar Strada Boa gloves which I got at Marine Products. The grip is amazing and they were perfect out of the package. I really like the tightening system and the curved fingers. My only complaint is the pinky finger is way too long. For the handle, I got a custom tied one from Laura at Sunshine Water Sports in Miami. She was able to do a 13" bent radius, elliptical and ARS. The grip is amazing and so far it is not showing any wear. Her price was very reasonable and it was quickly shipped.
Baller Jim Neely Posted August 4, 2011 Baller Report Posted August 4, 2011 Does Sunshine Water Sports in Miami have a website?
