travnews
My wifes uncle broke his ribs 3 or 4 years ago freeskiing without a life jacket. I seperated my lower rib 3 weeks ago free skiing(wearing a life jacket).
Baller Stewpro Posted July 30, 2011 Baller Share Posted July 30, 2011 Oh Yea, twice ,one year left 2 ribs onside into the wake another year I actually spun around from my toeside and went into the wake on my back and cracked one on the leftside back No fun at all . Takes alot longer than you think to heal up comeplete. Back on the water in 5 or 6 weeks but about 5 or six months before I didn't bother me at all. Sucks , just gotta Man Up and stay away from funny friends ! Hurts to laugh !
Baller_ Wish Posted July 30, 2011 Baller_ Share Posted July 30, 2011 What do Docs do for that??
Nick Sullivan
Last year, either broke or seperated some ribs. Took 4 weeks off and it was not nearly long enough. I ended up skiing for almost a year with hurt ribs. IT SUCKS!! Took well over a year to fully heal. Doc can't do anything except make sure the ribs aren't splintered. Take lots of time off, it will save you time in the end.
Baller Ham_Wallace Posted July 30, 2011 Baller Share Posted July 30, 2011 Took a digger at the Shreveport Tournament in 1981. Still dream about it. The sling went between my ribs. Still have knots. Poo-poo occurs.
Baller Ed_Obermeier Posted July 30, 2011 Baller Share Posted July 30, 2011 Checkout the new Radar X vest, has the thickest side panels of any life jacket I've ever seen. Might not keep you from a broken rib but it's gotta help with those occasional rib shots to the wakes. Ed
Baller Rup Posted July 31, 2011 Author Baller Share Posted July 31, 2011 Thanks for your comments - xrays were not clear as to what I have done but I know that I will not be skiing for a while. I was skiing on the sea, behind a rib, and I hit too big a wake too hard! I ski on the sea as it is my only option at home but I think that I might need a boat with a smaller wake. It is too rough for a Malibu (to get to where we ski) but I was thinking of a Boston Whaler. Any skied behind one?
kona
I have bruised, separated and cracked them a few times, but a few years back I did them good. X rays showed one cracked and one green stick. Almost couldn't get in the boat. It took months to recover from that one. Dont breath, cough our Laugh and youll be just fine :D
Baller Marco Posted July 31, 2011 Baller Share Posted July 31, 2011 Broke 6 ribs, my hand, and punctured a lung in a ski crash. On snow. In a super pipe. On a snow bike. Don't ask... 6 weeks and you'll be back in action.

Baller Laz Posted August 1, 2011 Baller Share Posted August 1, 2011 Rib injuries are miserable. Lots of ice, advil and mostly time. The injury is usually not a fracture, but lesser injuries can still be pretty lousy. Don't get back on the ski too soon and yes, the bump will usually go away in about 3 months.
