Dale St. John: January 21, 1933 - September 12, 2011

http://www.ballofspray.com/images/stories/6490_1179199916834_1133239387_549925_7122477_n.jpgDale St. John passed away on September 12, 2011. Dale was born January 21, 1933 in Fall River Mills, California. Father to Lisa, Lynn and Dennis. Friend to many.

In the last decade Dale was renowned as a softball coach but to the water ski world, Dale was one of the founders of what we currently know to be tournament water skiing.

Dale served 20 years on the AWSA Board of Directors starting in 1968. Dale was also a world caliber boat driver. In 1996 Dale recieved the Water Ski Hall of Fame "Award of Distinction".

On a personal note, Dale and his daughter Lisa are water ski icons to me as well as friends to the Horton family. I would like to extend my sincerest condolences to the St. John family.

This really makes me sad. If you never met Dale, you missed one of the great old time visionaries who made the sport what it is today.

 

Beside that he was one of my dad’s friends that was so great to me when I was a little boy.

I met Dale in the late 60's. He was always a gentleman. He was friendly and always encouraging. He will be missed by the community. What a great guy!

This is Sad to hear that Dale has passed away. Dale was still driving when I first came to Florida and he was a great mentor. Dale also coached fastpitch softball as a pitching coach. My daughter was coached by Dale a season or two, she will be sad to hear this news also.

Dale truly was a gentleman and a sportsman.

Thanks to Dale for what he brought to the sport's of Waterskiing and Softball. He will be missed.
