Any one string their own handles?

I have strung a new bar; but, I am really struggling to get on the molded end cap protector that covers the end of the bar and runs down the bridle. Any one have any advice or tricks.

Put them in warm, almost boiling water to make them softer before you slide them in to place.

Tsixam, thanks for the advise. I used a hair dryer and the hottest tap water I could get; but, based on your comment I am thinking that is not hot enough. I will try heating up some water on the stove and see what I can do, without hurting myself.....

A little bit of soap doesn't hurt either. I personally would love to have those on my handle, but it's hard to correct if it's not straight when it's finished and tightened.

It is hared to explain in words....I use the the part of a spoon you hold and pry the rubber end handle over and once I get it started just twist back and forth with some force and presto

 

As for as it being hard to get straight, I cut a piece of 3/4" PVC pipe at 12" (that is the size handle I use) I put a T in the middle and extended another piece of PVC out straight. I use that top make sure the braid comes together in the middle of the handle

bmiller3536, I tried exactly what you described with the spoon; but, i didn't have a lot of luck. I may have been being too cautious with the amount of force used; or, the rubber wasn't hot enough.

 

As far as getting it straight, I just measure each side of the handle bridle rope and tape it where it needs to be marked; then run the the fid through right above the tape and make a locking splice.
