Administrators Horton Posted October 10, 2011 Administrators Share Posted October 10, 2011 What is the exact width of the course in feet? What is the length of the rope at each shortening in feet? (it is metric so 35 off is not really 40 feet of rope - I can subtract 35 from 75) What is the delta between course width and the rope length at each shortening? Administrators Horton Posted October 10, 2011 Author Administrators Share Posted October 10, 2011 I have always thought this would be a better way to explain slalom to a new skier. Tell someone the rope is 9ft longer then the balls are wide at Orange makes more sense than 22 minus 75. Better yet Minus 2.46ft means more then 38 minus 75. (my new BP is 5 @ -.82ft and yours is something at -4.10 ft) I saw Nate get .5 @ -5.74 Saturday! I will get the format to look better tonight. Baller colo_skier Posted October 11, 2011 Baller Share Posted October 11, 2011 I like the chart were you are behind the boat versus were the bouy length is. This gives me some perspective of how much work I need to do to get to the fun stuff. I thought of this when we pull someone at 35 off and then the next person is at 15 off. The 15 off looks like miles behind the boat. It also helps in thinking that you have 20ft of rope outside the bouy at 15 off. So getting wide should be easy!!!! Haven't really found the easy part yet.
Baller ral Posted October 11, 2011 Baller Share Posted October 11, 2011 In our latitudes, we talk on an even less clear way, a not so good translation would be "cuts" (recortes). So first cut is 18.25, second cut would be 16m, etc... So on a tourney we would say "he made 4 at the 6th cut" for 4@38. Or something like that. Which is even less graphical for anyone not familiar with the sport.

Baller Chuck_Dickey Posted October 11, 2011 Baller Share Posted October 11, 2011 Any shorter???
Baller MattP Posted October 11, 2011 Baller Share Posted October 11, 2011 the difference of 9.75m and 9.5m is 9.84 inches. At that short of a line would you want a bigger decrease in the length? at 9.5 the rope would be "-2m" or -6.56feet
