Baller 6balls Posted August 13, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 13, 2012 For those still using rubber, what do you think of Wileys vs a D3 Leverage. My nephew has wileys on his jump skis and I played around on 'em this weekend. Very comfortably snug...got me thinking maybe shoudl put one on my slalom. I have a leverage on there now. Thoughts? Baller The_MS Posted August 13, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 13, 2012 The Wiley Pro wrap is a bit flimsy but the Trick wrap is top notch for slalom. After my last Approach burns out, I plan to go back to the trick wrap.
Baller ToddL Posted August 13, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 13, 2012 Wiley bindings come in a lot of different models. There are a few levels of Jump bindings, (different wraps, etc.). Then, there are the trick wraps, and also slalom wraps. Trick wraps seem to go higher up the ankle and are tighter at the ankle. So, be sure to find out what was on those jump skis so you know... Baller sunvalleylaw Posted August 13, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 13, 2012 I grew up on, and used until just recently Wiley high wraps. D3 Leverage bindings came on the ski I just got. The Leverage bindings feel to me like a slightly improved or slightly more precise version of the Wiley's high wraps, with better cushioning under foot. I have never tried the other Wiley bindings. Baller thompjs Posted August 13, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 13, 2012 I bought a trick wrap medium and it is so tight I can't use it. You might need to order one size up.
Baller Razorskier1 Posted August 13, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 13, 2012 @6balls -- I think those were the cheapest of the Wiley Jump Wraps.
Baller sunvalleylaw Posted August 13, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 13, 2012 I will also say that the D3 wraps on the ones that came on the 2008 ski I got need replacing as they are cracking now after I have been using them a couple months, and that they are a bit harder to get in and out of as compare to the Wiley's. I am ordering replacement parts from d3 to fix them up, which is easy enough to do. They seem like they might have got some sun exposure under the care of the prior owner. Baller jhughes Posted August 13, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 13, 2012 For slalom I really didn't like crashing into the horseshoe on the Wileys with my toes on wake crosses, but that was several years ago and perhaps with my current form that wouldn't happen. On tricks I can give you a direct comparison- went to a Wiley trick wrap from a D3 Leverage. Used to LOVE the leverage but I wanted to play with some different binding positions and the Wiley plate had more adjustability in that regard. Broke in the Wiley by keeping a thermos in the wrap for weeks at a time. Now it fits perfectly. It's way more snug and secure than the D3 and thus feels way better- however, it does make my foot cramp brutally after about 10 minutes of skiing. Little give and take I suppose. After skiing the Wiley I switched back to the D3 because of the cramping, then switched the Wiley back on figuring the cramping was well worth the snug fit. So there you have it. bogboy
I have used the wiley's standard wrap with rtp for over 20 years, and switched to the double pro wraps about 5 years ago, and I have been very happy with them. One thing though, you have to use lots of dawn soap with them. I was at a club course function over a month ago, was on an unfamiliar "docking" boat with a low swim platform, water sloshing up, and low quality soap. It was my turn, I forced my feet in, and broke 2 chips off my rear foot. I had the chips removed, and I will be skiing again in about a month. So, protect yourself, analise every situation, don't rely on anybody else, and bring your own dawn soap with you. To be Fair, this can happen with any rubber binding system. May I respectfully ask anybody what they think of the new ho attack bindings? Thank you.
Baller 6balls Posted August 14, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 14, 2012 @bogboy, I keep a small bottle of soap in the pocket of my ski bag...just in case.
