Administrators Horton Posted January 24, 2013 Administrators Share Posted January 24, 2013 What is most interesting? We are getting close to a Baller Cash Prize Event in addition to the Atlanta ProAM. I am looking for feedback about the format. This is an event for skiers with a USAWS score. In time other events will happen for non-USAWS skiers. Administrators Horton Posted January 24, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted January 24, 2013 To be clear. This has nothing to do with the Atlanta ProAM. That is all set & will be the highlight of the Baller year. More news on the ProAM in a day or two. What I am talking about here is more of a backyard event with some money on the line. JMN
The buckeye bouy tour in OH does really well with handicapped tournament based on bouy count average. Generally speaking if you best your average, that new high score is your average for the next round.
Baller ski4xtc Posted January 25, 2013 Baller Share Posted January 25, 2013 The handicap method would allow women to compete.
Baller Kelvin Posted January 25, 2013 Baller Share Posted January 25, 2013 I have no chance of winning anything but a handicapped event. Oh wait, with guys like @OB (coming off injury, or having the breakout year) I have no chance of winning a handicapped event either. Oh well, I ski tournaments for the fun of it. Administrators Horton Posted January 25, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted January 25, 2013 @Kelvin If Baller events becomes a thing, I would like to see a number of formats. I want to see the full on 41 off guys go at it and I want to encourage the 15 off guys. The hard part is you can not really put them against each other. Baller Kelvin Posted January 25, 2013 Baller Share Posted January 25, 2013 @horton the handicap concept would work ok over the course of a summer series as scores level out. As you have noted, there are flaws in using the raw ranking list scores without some adjustment mechanism.
Administrators Horton Posted January 25, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted January 25, 2013 I need to get the formula that they use at Diablo. It is something like: You compete against your USAWS average for 2 rounds to get into the head to head. Your score is the average of two rounds. (if 3 rounds maybe it is best 2 of 3) Once in the Head to Head your average is reset by the average of your two rounds from the weekend. The point is - you have to ski at or above your average to get in. Then you should be darn near equal with everyone in the head to head. The only way to win is to be consistent and to ski at or near your average. Baller_ RichardDoane Posted January 25, 2013 Baller_ Share Posted January 25, 2013 since they only use the top 3 scores for your USAWaterski average, anyone who skis a lot of tournaments, and can consistently hits their average score at a big event, deserves to win the $$$, it's skiers like @OB who's average has gotten dusty that will throw a wrench in the handicapping works
Baller 6balls Posted January 25, 2013 Baller Share Posted January 25, 2013 It's also true that it's a little more difficult to beat one's average by a wide margin (lots of buoys) for the shortline skier. That's ok, though, if someone smashes a PB nice reward to see 'em in there.
Administrators Horton Posted January 28, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted January 28, 2013 @6balls I think the rules are going to say that your average must be into 32 off. So with at least 3 scores in the last 12 months and scores into 32 off no one should bust out 3 balls ahead of handicap. That is the plan at least. With some luck I will be announcing a west cost date soon! Baller MattP Posted January 28, 2013 Baller Share Posted January 28, 2013 @Horton I do like the Diablo method you posted. Seems logical for an even playing field over one weekend.
Administrators Horton Posted January 28, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted January 28, 2013 I do need to talk to Greg about his rules.
