Skiing helping out with other activities?

Curious if others have noticed their ability in different activities getting better after a year or two of skiing the course.

I'm 32 and I've been road and mountain biking since I was probably 5 (mostly mountain biking). I've always been fairly aggressive on mountain bikes but was never any good at the elusive track stand no matter how much I tried. I've been slalom skiing for 15 years but one summer of skiing the course and immediately I could do a track stand or ride a series of railroad ties when I hopped back on a bike in the fall. Neither of which I was able to do and I definitely tried many times. I figure that can only be attributed to a large core strength improvement.

I also used to say that my grip was strong from rock climbing but now I'm starting to say that my grip has gotten stronger through skiing.

Indoor rock climbing improved from skiing and improved my skiing. Core Core Core. I think I have much faster reaction time....especially driving. What seemed like a blink of an eye, I've managed to avoid a couple potential car accidents....their falt of course. ;)

I think a combination of sports has a huge benefit on other aspects of life. I can certainly attest to P90X and P90X2 helping with my reaction time and hand eye coordination. I never used to be able to bat the puck out of the air while playing hockey - I now can do that fairly well. My core is much stronger as a result of skiing and P90X. Grip strength has improved too. Now if I can just maintain better body position....I think this aspect is all mental!

I do a 13 hour endurance race with a couple of guys my age (late 50s) anually at Virginia International Raceway. Either they are getting slower or I'm getting faster over the past four years. It's a good comparison because we are all sharing the same car the same day/night on the same track. I'm convinced my skiing is improving, or at least maintaining, my driving skills because the other guys have been getting more track time than I have.
