@DanE - water was 57 deg this past weekend. I find as I get older the water seems colder. It's a long season. And, I don't think 57 deg water will give me an accurate picture of the ski's capabilities in 80-90 deg water. I hope to be on the water by the first weekend in March. I'm very interested in getting Ward's opinion compared to the Fusion that he had so much success on in 2012.

I have only a handful of sets on the final Quest and they were all in 50ish degree water. I was comfortable at 2.515, 6.9400, 0.750, 7 degrees, 30 1/16" front boot which is similar to where I rode my X7, just a bit deeper. I will of course revisit when it warms up and I ski m

I will be interested to hear what Fusion lovers think of the Quest. Will first described it to me as an "X7 on steriods" and that is what it feels like to me!

@jimbrake I found the X7 to be a deeper riding ski that liked to carve plush turns. The Quest feels like that but more steriods in the turns, especially heal side. I felt the X7 was awesome on my toe side but left me wanting a bit more heal side, and I have both sides in the Quest, more balanced than I felt on the X7.

If anything the Quest is quicker than the X7, but I expect the masses to consider it a "slow" ski. The Fusion should remain the quicker D3 option.

See you at Far East Sunday?

Skied my first set today with the Fusion, and second with the Quest.

Went out with 6.913”, 2.511”, 0.765”. Water 20C, perfect conditions. As I am in the final third of the season, I had decided that if the ski did not behave well the first set (i.e. put me in the drink or have a really lousy performance), it would get back to the bag until the end of the season.

I have a bad offside turn. I have a metal plate in my neck as a reminder. Although I make efforts to correct it, I tend to lead with my shoulder, and this is amplified whenever the ski locks at the buoy. In the short 6 passes I was on the Quest, and although was not forcing it at all, the ski turned smoothly but tight, without any signs of locking or biting. I felt like I could correct my body position while turning as the ski leaded the correct way. Same thing in the onside, but there I do not need much assistance. Bottom line, it turned smooth and tight, noticeable smoother that the Fusion, and did not lock after hooking up, allowing angle increase after the buoy. Like it finish the turn by itself.

I looked good at 2 and 4, which is not usual…

Noticed that the ski jumped slightly more at the wake, but this might be as well because of me taking it easy (do not like to push the limits with a new ski before knowing how it reacts). Did not push the ski a lot, so cannot comment too much in speed, but I did not feel I was slow or late. More on this over the next few days.

My buoy performance was the same in both sets (which in itself is a pretty good endorsement for the Quest), and the driver said the second set was better.

I noticed some hunting when straight behind the boat and when turning the islands, which I do not notice with the Fusion.

Did not feel the need to move the fin, but for more on this department I need to force it a little more.

A keeper for sure at this stage.

Tried to push it today. Bouy-wise, performance was about the same than yesterday, but form was worst. Ski does good things, but it needs to be pushed differently than the Fusion. The ski does not like to "wait", wants to be on one edge or the other. Being tired after a full ski week did not help a lot either.

More next week, will have the weekend off...

4th and 5th set on the ski. Still same setting. I am starting to see how to push it more. Definitely turns better than the Fusion, has less lean lock and it seems to be similar speed-wise. Still not 100% used to it, but buoy count is marginally better at this stage.

I am skiing 22's, 28's and into 32's and, as line gets shorter, the differences with the Fusion get more significant. It feels smoother at shorter lines. Less effort for the same results, and less fighting.

Ski is not "hunting" anymore, I think the tail rocker placement requires to be a little more in the front of the ski while turning islands and cruising behind the boat.

Ok. Conclusion time. Have been one week + 2 days on the Quest. Really started to push it today.

1) The ski turns amazingly well. So well in fact that you better keep the ski casting outwards if early, if you just release the handle and try to wait for the buoy with a flat ski (yeah, I know, not the way of dong it..), the ski will turn before the buoy.

2) It does not "lean lock". You can increase angle after the buoy, and you can increase the angle after turning in to the gate. This is something that is making my gates far better, as I can turn in with slightly more load in the rope without fearing to have my ski back all the way to 1, and have a better boat load handling. It will also come more to the front and have less tendency to get back when dropping the shoulder in my offside.

3) The ski is, or at least feels, as fast as the Fusion. And it feels in control when pushing it. More than the Fusion.

4) If I do things by the book, the ski will do exactly what it is supposed to do, getting me earlier, with more control and with more time to think. If I do things wrong, the ski will be more forgiving than the Fusion. Especially when dropping my shoulder in my offside. Which is what I do. A lot...

5) The ski is easier on my body. Maybe because of the extra surface, maybe because it does not lean lock so less stress in my back, maybe just because that is the way it is. But this means that I can ski more. This week, I have skied 2 sets a day Mon-Sat, with some 8 pass sets, will do the same tomorrow, and feel great. Never been able to do that in the past, two sets Mon-Tue used to mean I would be in bad shape on Wed...

At this stage, I have not PBed with it, but I feel that this will come soon (taking in account that one year ago I was recovering from a ski/life threatening neck injury). And today I felt skiing better than ever. People from the boat confirmed it.
