I am heading to my first ski school experience the first of april to Swiss in Clermont Fl, totally stoked but would love advice from some of you veterans:

I am planning to video our coached sets...is that common? Will the school/ coach mind?

we are skiing morning sets....any suggestions for apre' ski activities in the clermont/ orlando area?

I've seen posts about how to pack your ski which is very helpful, has anyone sent via UPS before? Does that make any sense?

any other advice or suggestions are appreciated

I have shipped UPS, Fedex and USPS. Was cheaper for me to ship Fedex at that time. We have a station right at the airport I work at so I took it there. Paid for "ground "shipping. Was there in Florida the very next day. 1500+ miles over night. Fast Truck!

Videoing is never a problem. Make sure whoever is filming keeps the tape running between passes so you record the coaching, not just the skiing. Make sure they film something interesting while you are in the water. You can only watch a close up of someone's crotch, calf or the boat floor for so long. You can wear a go pro if you want.

In Clermont, you can watch the grass grow or go to Travers and look around. Or play golf. Clermont has some of the only hills in Florida, so the bike riding there is pretty good. Otherwise, all the fun and good food is in Orlando. Go check out the Nautique factory (info@nautique.com), check out Performance Ski and Surf, and go to the Water Ski Hall of Fame. Drive to Kennedy Space Center. Check out Sea World.

The best way to travel with your ski is to use a one event roller bag. If you will be traveling with your ski even just a few times a year, it is worth the investment. Order a bag from H2OProShop.com. I prefer Masterlinie. You can pack everything you are bringing in the one bag to reduce baggage fees on the airline. Set a mousetrap to see if the boys at TSA are on their toes. Make sure to use a fin protector, like a FinFirkin (http://www.shortline-sports.com/) If you are using a regular ski bag, PROTECT YOUR FIN! At the very least, make three large rolls of newspaper or beach towels, and tape one roll to the top of the ski and one on each side of the fin, and duck tape it all together. I have never shipped a water ski to a ski site by UPS but I have shipped snow skis. If you have a roller bag (like my Masterline) there is really no advantage to shipping ahead, especially if you are flying Southwest.

Best advice: Don't forget sunblock on the top of your feet. Sunburned feet plus water ski bindings equal less fun on you ski vacation. Also, bring your own handle if you want. They won't mind. Last three things: Let your skiing do your talking. Often the guy on the dock who talk the biggest game hit the shortest ball. Don't be that guy. Bring a good book or two. And avoid politics.
