Baller rodltg2 Posted February 28, 2013 Baller Share Posted February 28, 2013 Anyone ever swerve behind one ? We're they pretty bad ?
Baller gregy Posted February 28, 2013 Baller Share Posted February 28, 2013 Bayliner ski boat. Bayliner quality I think is the biggest issue. They're long gone. The engine they used were not Converted by Inmar or PCM so I've heard there were some issues getting some parts.
Administrators Horton Posted February 28, 2013 Administrators Share Posted February 28, 2013 Friend had one in college. Don't think is was all that bad. Baller gregy Posted February 28, 2013 Baller Share Posted February 28, 2013 I think the wakes decent on them.
Baller brody Posted February 28, 2013 Baller Share Posted February 28, 2013 I had one for just over 10 years. The boat was very comfy, extremly reliable. The engine was a US Marine Ford 351. Carb. I never had any problems finding parts...tx to discount inboard marine. The wake had the usual bump at 22 off, spray became an issue in a headwind at 35 off. At 32off and beyond there was no wake to speak of. I skied behind several 1990 MC's and felt that the Challenger had a much nicer wake. It did lack the quality of the more expensive boats, but again I sold it last year with the original interior in it and was only a little faded. It also was bad in rough water
Baller andjules Posted March 1, 2013 Baller Share Posted March 1, 2013 oh, and they're really, really ugly. Which may or may not matter to you.
Baller_ Wish Posted March 1, 2013 Baller_ Share Posted March 1, 2013 Windshield is funky but that's back when they hand timed boats to you didn't have to reach around the windshield i guess. . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffwNWImPlzE
Baller ForrestGump Posted March 1, 2013 Baller Share Posted March 1, 2013 Used to ski behind one that a friend had on the river. Damn thing was a little odd looking. But it skied really, really well.
Baller EricW Posted March 1, 2013 Baller Share Posted March 1, 2013 I had one for a while, ski wake was really good, any less then 35' off the spray got bad. Skidim had all the parts you could ever need. That high speed windshield was just ahead of its time!
Baller ThePantsManCan Posted March 1, 2013 Baller Share Posted March 1, 2013 I think all the Heavy Breathing in that video would deter me from buying it.

Baller GAJ0004 Posted March 3, 2013 Baller Share Posted March 3, 2013 I see one tied up at the marina at Aurora Lake in Aurora OH. It is the only one I have seen. Speaking of rare boats, anyone remember the Sea Ray Ski Ray?
Baller XR6Hurricane Posted March 3, 2013 Baller Share Posted March 3, 2013 @GAJ0004 Yes I remember seeing the Ski Rays sitting on the showroom floor new. I think I've seen a couple on the water over the years but not very many. Would like to ski behind one to see what they are like.
Baller_ Wish Posted March 3, 2013 Baller_ Share Posted March 3, 2013 SeaRay had a bunch of SkiRays. Two larger inboards; open and closed bow. A small closed bow inboard and two outboards versions; open and closed bow.
Baller thager Posted March 3, 2013 Baller Share Posted March 3, 2013 Don't forget the Glastron Ski Machines!
Baller_ Wish Posted March 3, 2013 Baller_ Share Posted March 3, 2013 Glastron... :-) If I ever come to the point where I have more money then sense, I want to buy one of those either restored or have it restored. Love the shape of that boat. Don't know if Id want it in blue or gold metal flake. A bit older then the boats in the thread.
Baller thager Posted March 3, 2013 Baller Share Posted March 3, 2013 @Wish. There's a restore vid of the Ski machine on u toob. Pretty cool! If I ever had more money than sense I would buy my 72 Hydrodyne IO back from my neighbor and restore it.
Baller ForrestGump Posted March 3, 2013 Baller Share Posted March 3, 2013 My dad was part owner of a Glastron dealership in the late 70s, early 80s so we had a Ski Machine when I was 10-12. They were essentially Carlson CVX20's. That era Carlson was ahead of it's time in styling and performance.
Baller_ Wish Posted March 3, 2013 Baller_ Share Posted March 3, 2013 @ShaneH agree. And all set up with tow pylon, dual speedos, rear facing passenger seat and mirror. Thinkin no tracking fins though right?
Baller_ Wish Posted March 3, 2013 Baller_ Share Posted March 3, 2013 Brochure of the Glastron Carlson series of boats. The Ski Machine is about half way down the web page. What's really cool is the last boat at the bottom of the web page. I got a chance to sit in one of these at an antique boat show in FL. http://www.cgoamn.com/54.html
Baller east tx skier Posted March 3, 2013 Baller Share Posted March 3, 2013 @GAJ0004, my wife's uncle has a 93 Ski Ray OB. Pretty firm rooster tail, but, otherwise, a pretty reliable boat.
Baller ForrestGump Posted March 3, 2013 Baller Share Posted March 3, 2013 @Wish Honestly, I don't recall about tracking fins on the Ski Machine. I was more worried about Dungeons and Dragons back then. lol. As far as the Scimitar, you could also get the T tops on a regular CV23 and CV21. We had a CV21 with the t-tops. Looked essentially the same as a Scimitar but with a different windshield.
Baller 6balls Posted March 4, 2013 Baller Share Posted March 4, 2013 The Ski Ray outboard is a dog compared to the Centurions, Flightcraft, and Sanger outboards of the vintage. I've got an old Centurion outboard and there is a Ski Ray on our lake...no comparison.
Baller_ Wish Posted March 4, 2013 Baller_ Share Posted March 4, 2013 @6balls Wonder how the decade older Glastron would compare?
Baller 6balls Posted March 4, 2013 Baller Share Posted March 4, 2013 @wish, not sure. Have you driven an early 90's barefoot boat from Centurion/Flightcraft/Sanger. Wear a pad if you don't have good sphincter tone. Nice builds, too. Centurion tracks the best, has best hole shot under load(all fast w/out load) and Falcon Barefoot has most room, but wake's are better on Flighty and Sanger. My old man used to hand drive AND hand time me at 36 mph thru 32 off and into 35 at 36 mph when I was really into the gym and pulled like a freak. 16.05 to 16.15's like clockwork. First PP tourney I ran I weighed 225 and the driver had to put in 275 to get times. The old Centurion outboard was a pretty tough customer. With tilt hydraulic steering...pretty nice family boat but obviously not the boat for slalom anymore.
Baller_ Wish Posted March 4, 2013 Baller_ Share Posted March 4, 2013 Been behind the wheel of a Sanger, Flightcraft and an outboard MC. Footed behind a couple and slalomed behind the Sanger. Great boats. Power to weight ratio was tremendous compared to the inboards of the early 90s. Still see the Sanger pulling tubes on my home town lake back in MN.
