Baller Stevie Boy Posted April 8, 2013 Baller Share Posted April 8, 2013 Hi Guy,s, our ski club has a Nautique 200, is looked after and treated with respect, apparently at the weekend the Guy,s started to get vibration, consistent with weed round the prop, on inspection no weed, they put the boat back in the water, drove it for a short while and then it developed a fault which is of great concern, I cannot understand how it,s doing what it is doing, but basically when you select reverse the boat shoots forward, not too clever if you have a skier in the water, anybody come across this problem ? Baller liquid d Posted April 8, 2013 Baller Share Posted April 8, 2013 Wow, I think the boys at CC would want to hear about that asap.
Baller ForrestGump Posted April 8, 2013 Baller Share Posted April 8, 2013 Check the shifter cable. If it's off and you get the shift lever on the trans in between gears, it'll vibrate. There haven't been any issues with that system, as it's been in use in much the same setup since 2002.
Baller BraceMaker Posted April 8, 2013 Baller Share Posted April 8, 2013 Im with @shaneh This sounds like basic mechanical tune up. Consult dealer if unable to troubleshoot. You have noted the fault, risking a skier is user error at this point.
Baller Stevie Boy Posted April 8, 2013 Author Baller Share Posted April 8, 2013 The Boat is de-commisioned at this point, we have several engineering minds, in the club, nothing is obvious at this point, it certainly is an odd one, we are due a new boat at the end of april, the weather is just starting to turn for the better here. Thanks for suggestions.
Administrators Horton Posted April 8, 2013 Administrators Share Posted April 8, 2013 Until you have a horror story greater than “the boat is not working and we have not called the dealer yet” I am not super happy about this thread. Nautique provides products and services on par with Mercedes-Benz. The fact the your boat is out of commission sucks but you simply need to get it back to a dealer or certified mechanic. Your post makes it sound like you think Nautique makes a shoddy product. Sorry to be such a grump. Thousands of skiers read BallOfSpray every day so when post something like this with two exclamations!! it could unfairly cost Nautique sales. Administrators Horton Posted April 8, 2013 Administrators Share Posted April 8, 2013 Also additional posts that are off topic only serve to keep this thread alive. I am super not happy about that. Baller_ DW Posted April 8, 2013 Baller_ Share Posted April 8, 2013 Under the assumption that the engineering minds are mechanically capable, I would suggest disconnecting the shift linkage and making sure it is correctly aligned. Since a multi use boat, check with each of the last users to see what they might have done to initiate the problem, that could be the fastest way to find out what might have caused the issue. As John noted, the boats are very high quality so there is a good chance it is operator induced.
Baller Stevie Boy Posted April 8, 2013 Author Baller Share Posted April 8, 2013 @Horton on the contary, I think Nautique make the best boats, we have never had a problems with them or there service, just wanted to know if anybody else had come across this problem. The Dealer is coming to investigate and bringing a new gearbox, apparently it could be a drive plate or valve, within the gearbox. I do not think Nautique sell shoddy products at all, their product is good. Sorry about the off topic, I should have sent a personal message to Phil it was not designed to keep the thread alive. Baller ForrestGump Posted April 8, 2013 Baller Share Posted April 8, 2013 Drive plate won't cause it to only go forward instead of reverse. The drive plate only serves to provide the connection spot between the trans and prop shaft and also to provide isolation dampening. A bad drive plate can cause it to rattle and shake, though. I've never seen a bad PCM drive plate, though.
