What a great time to be a skier, just some of the cool stuff rolled out to slalom skiers (not wakeboarders!) in the last few years. Compare to a few years ago when very little was in the pipeline for the slalom crowd.

I love it!

Actually when I look out on my lake, there are very few boarders around compared to skiers. Tons of families out with kids and most of them skiing! A lot of the would be boarders have seemed to have switched to surfing, as its easier and WAY less painful. They also do that in the other end of my lake, thank goodness.

My wife's theory is that it's easier to learn to get up on a wakeboard than skis but once you are up it takes a ton of practice (and painful falls) to be able to do any real tricks. Whereas with skiing, once you are up, the progression and fun factor is much better and quicker.

@skihart...we find the same on our lake. Far more skiers than boarders. It's a super nice thing to see. I will say this though, we do have a boarder on our lake who is pretty darn good at his sport. That and he's super courteous when we're out by letting us get sets in before he tears up the good water.

@skihart @inland I couldn't agree with you guys more. I took a trip to Table Rock Lake a few weeks ago and we saw maybe a handful of riders. Everyone where we were on the lake seemed to be either wake surfing or skiing.

It's an interesting year to get back into it if you've been away for a decade. I'm happy to see so much momentum in both the sport and recreational aspects.

It's also nice being one of only five or six boats on the whole Parker strip of the Colorado River at sunrise. 20 years ago it used to be a race to the early glass. Apparently, wakeboarders and PWCers sleep in.

It's all boarders and surfers here with monster boats, full of people, blasting music, going 10 mph, with ballasts full and putting out a wake that would capsize the Titanic. Throw in a hand ful of jet skis buzzing around and it makes finding good (and safe) water very difficult.

@DW gotta mention the Radar Satori also! I did my good deed on Sunday when I pulled a wakeboarder skiing on the Satori- he got 4 buoys and 23mph! I could see the look in his eyes- that he's going to be thinking about 5 ball until he gets back out there. Using the same ski I've also gotten my wife hooked on the (mini)course, my brother who has wrist issues has been in the course, and I've gotten my dad skiing 5 times this year after only skiing once last year because of back pain. Long live slalom!

I wish I was young again...then just maybe...

I look at my friends little girl Kennedy...she is so good and so young...and so lucky!

@crashman, amen! I bought a new HO Freeride this year and my girlfriend, who's been wake boarding for at least seven years, can never wait until we take the boat out again to go "skiing." Success.

@Skoot1113....this guy's not a skier at all and I have offered him a pull. He returned the offer because I've never been on a board. I may take him up conditionally.

Interesting to hear everyone say they're seeing more skiers. I'm on a small semi-private lake and can get good water nearly every evening of the week. Granted, I may only get 30-60 minutes of good water, but it's still good water. Another great thing is that the crew I ski with on weekends gets out every morning and one of them is always willing to drive for me in the evening. I'm RARELY able to get the early set due to family and work matters. Sure is nice to have lots of skiers on the lake. It IS a great time to be a skier!

The best part is manufacturers are striving to help all levels of skiers. The new Prostar with wakes flat for all speeds. Skis that make skiing enjoyable for all levels like the new HO freeride and the Radar Santori. Top end skis for 34mph not just 36mph that pros use. Can't wait to see what the next new product will be?
