Baller Texas6 Posted August 21, 2013 Baller Share Posted August 21, 2013 My ten year old son has been wake-boarding since he was three or four years old and has always enjoyed it & has become very good at it over the years. I've encouraged him to try to slalom but never pushed him too hard because he's one of those kids who likes things a lot more when they are his idea. He's been riding in the boat while my friends and I ski since he was in a car seat. Well finally this week he says to me "Dad, I'd like to try to slalom today". Fast forward all of eleven minutes and we are on the water and Dad is fired up. I offer to put the boom out and he says, "can I just try behind the boat?" I tell him "absolutely, but when you get up don't worry about buoys, just get comfortable on the ski". Two tries later, he's up behind the boat and immediately started chasing buoys on the mini course (can't say I blame him). Needless to say, he was fired up after running the mini course and the equivalent of three sets when I finally had to tell him to get in the boat against his will because he was exhausted. Fast forward 12 hours and its 6am in the morning and I'm out on the dock in a life jacket awaiting my morning set and guess who walks out in a bathing suit? My ten year old set his alarm for 5:45am so he could ski dawn patrol with his old man. Best day ever. Here is his first ever slalom pass... Baller ToddL Posted August 21, 2013 Baller Share Posted August 21, 2013 Oh, just so that you are ready for it... this becomes just a touch bittersweet when your son starts doing 3 event and wants to take 2 sets per event on each outing on the lake. ;-) Just plan for longer lake outings.
