This pic was taken from our roof in Tuolumne co. Cali. The Rim fire is very close to our home and I had to chuckle tonight as my wife and I pack ready to bug out in case of evacuation. She grabs the dog food, the dog, clothes, water. I grab my ski and shorts and vest, ready to head out to the course in the am. Of course my Stratocaster and Les Paul guitars as well as the climbing gear got packed too. If you feel led please pray for the firefighters and that our little neck of the woods might be spared!

@cragginshred - I grew up not far north of you and used to ski at NM. I've been through the fire evac orders. Computer, photo albums and the file cabinet with insurance, vehicle, etc info, the rest you can replace (@horton - the note book is a good idea as well).

Good luck.

I was just working in that area a few weeks ago, I have lived all over the country and it is one of the most beautiful areas I have ever seen.

Also, I'll have to let you know next time I head home to ski, I'm sure you have met my family out there, but I don't think we have met yet.

Thanks guys. We bugged out today. Got to ski 3 sets at Sunspray and enjoy the Delta breeze at the in laws ranch in Oakdale. We are extremely blessed, no luck involved, just character to be built and trust in the one who brings the rain and the sun we all love!

I guess that begs the question... what would you, a baller, pack if you had to bug out.. If a fire, hurricane, earthquake hit and you had to get out? Obviously, your ski. But what else? Might grab the computer, guns, my medals from the worlds... If there was still time... RC cars. I might leave one of my cats behind!

I came across this little video (

of a tanker on the Rim fire, rather impressive, I believe its a DC10, but could be wrong. There are a few other cockpit videos from MAFFS6
on youtube that show the extent of the fire as well as what the pilot sees while making the drops.

@usaski1 - here is a list from Cal Fire, I would add my ski into the mix

@cragginshred hope the fire misses you. Reading the inciweb that is quite a fire. You are smart to get out early. Ski rides at Sunspray is always a good idea. Great group of people to ski with always a good time there. The Tanker videos were cool, although the first video where they pretreat that far ahead is rare. The second video was a great view and more common drop.

Flew past the Rim Fire this afternoon. It was huge. It took forever to fly from one end to the other. Of course I was flying a 150. Everything takes forever in a 150. Still , that is a huge fire. It was quiescent when I went by but there were two giant smoke cumulus towers from a conflagration earlier in the day. The smoke pall went from Fresno to Rancho Seco. How did the smoke go north when I had a headwind from the north? Wait, I was flying a 150 - they have a built in headwind. Best wishes to all in the affected area.
