Offside trouble hooking up to handle video

In this video you can see 1st one at the gate shot I was on back foot a little too much, 2nd one not as bad, also handle low was something I have switch to resulting in better angle through gates. First one a little better counter rotation but could be better at 1-3-5 balls on both. by 5 ball on both videos it all goes downhill with the should fully leading the charge.

Primary focus has been hooking up to the handle following 1-3-5 turns already leaned/ leveraged. I have seen plenty of veterans hook up with all kinds of weird stuff going on but still be able to get right back to their properly stacked position, but one I hook up hunched with but back and shoulders leading the charge it is at this point impossible to reverse.

I am skiing 32mph -15 and actually made the first pass ever trying -22 last week, however, fixing this hardwired glitch is goal #1. I have been in the course for 1 year now, and the past two months getting coaching every set via joining a private lake. With this one goal in mind who has some feedback I could use? I see many things wrong that could be commented on but this thread is to aid in fixing this ONE thing! Thanks!

I'm about the same level as you are, so take my advice for what its worth.

1) Wait a bit longer to come back to the handle. Your ski should cross the path of the rope before coming back to it. In order to grab the handle earlier you have to lean forward a bit, which is making it hard for you to maintain the stacked position out of the turn and thru the pull.

2) When you come back to the handle look at the back of the boat, not the next ball. This will help your shoulders open towards the boat and allow for a better stacked position.

after the 1 3 5 turns it looks like your trying to force the handle over on to your right hip but that just drives your left should forward and then your right shoulder follows. the handle ends up pulling from kind of in back of your core but you have no leverage cuz your bent over with your butt out behind you for balance. instead at the end of your turn try to finish with your shoulders paralell to the handle all the way through the wake so your arms are equally loaded and your more open to the boat. equal load on your arms lets you lay back against the rope for a more efficient and powerful pull and its easier to get your hips up and keep them there.

Nice skiing. I know this will sound odd, but as you go into 1 3 5, push your left hip up over your front foot and pull your right shoulder back. When you finish the turn, drive the right hip through the turn and up under the line. Get ready for a big WHOA!

Yes. In reality, you will be keeping your chest pointed outward while getting weight on the inside edge which will allow the ski to run out a little more and then the key is to let the ski come around and under the line until you hookup. Before, I,would just say counter rotate by pulling your right shoulder back, but some of the newer skiers I was working with would allow their hips to separate from the handle too much, so driving the left hip up over the front foot helps keep the hip up and ski on edge. Opposite hip and shoulder on 246.

Try it a few times and see how it feels.

Hips forward like AB says. At the basic level try to keep proper body position (stacked) as much as possible through out the course. Otherwise looks good, smooth good, angle out of turn. But if you can come out the turn to the handle in a stacked body position you'll get to the next level pretty quick I think.

@mwetskier the advice to finish the turn keeping my shoulders level to the handle through pull really helped today along with hips ups! @AB on land what you describe makes sense it will be revisited as the above was a really quick way to make a difference. I like what your shared and the fellas on the dock seemed to as well. The 'left hip over right foot allows counter rotation to occur from the hips up making the arm fall where it needs to. Now, making it happen on the water.....Sunday!!!
