interesting knee brace

Latest issue of ski magazine (the snow kind) had an ad for the reaction knee brace. I wear a neoprene steel hinged knee brace occassionally when my knee is unhappy and running them in the water really ruins them. While I don't think that this thing has as much side to side stability it looks like it is worth a shot.

That looks exactly like what I've been looking for. The side stability braces do nothing for me as its the forward bending motion that is weak and can cause me pain. That looks almost assistive in that move. As the knee bends more, the brace providers more and more support the further the knee bends. I want one. Perhaps an early Christmas gift to myself. My left leg/knee gives out long before my right when snow skiing. Waterskiing is not as pronounced but can feel it fatigue quicker then the right. And price really does not look out of line. Thanks @oldjeep

@Wish - if you have an HSA, they are sorta free ;) I ordered one to try it out since they cost 1/2 of what the ones I normally use cost. If it is not obvious from the site, the undersleeve comes with it so you don't rip all the hair off your legs.

@Zman HSA = Health Savings Account. Something you defer funds to tax free that can only be used on medical services or items. So it lowers your annual income for tax purposes. It's still your money so not really free but also not directly outa your accounts at the bank.

@Wish @oldjeep Gotcha, I have an HSA. I understand that part.

Did you read the new stipulations on what you can spend the pretax savings on? Water ski gear is now included as it is considered Therapeutic Preventive Care.

after tearing and having surgery on my left acl and both meniscus's 6 years ago i started skiing in a knee brace all the time a year ago i found out i had torn my acl and meniscus's in my right knee i now slalom and trick in neoprene shock doctor with metal hinges but i also have custom cti knee braces for wakeboarding and snow boarding but if i slalom in the cti crossing the wakes with a hard knee brace on your back leg really kills the back of your front knee if its only on front leg the hinge hits your back legs knee cap i like that knee brace but i would be careful you may have to get a sleeve to cover the brace i use the neoprene because of the comfort but they dont have the support for wakeboarding as i have popped my right knee out in the neoprene but i still havent had surgery on it but the shockdoctor brace works great for slalom

Showed up today and it'll be interesting to see how it works. I like that it comes with the sleeve separate so that if you are wearing it over the speed suit then you can omit that part. Initial impressions are that the plastic bars/hinges are basically to keep the rubber straight, they offer no side to side stability at all. It is pretty comfortable except for the lower most "bar" which is really close to your calf muscle, which may become a rubbing issue if it is not being worn over the additional thickness of a speed suit.
