Baller Garn Posted April 25, 2014 Baller Share Posted April 25, 2014 I just got my latest issue of Waterski. On pages 58 and 59 is an "All-Star Technique" article about/by Nate Smith. Nate says "I lift my heels and push my weight to the balls of my feet. I'm driving the ski with my front foot and toes." Look at the picture of him on page 59 and look at his back foot. Look how high is rear heal is! It's almost coming out of his rear toe strap! He's not kidding when he says he lifts his heel! Maybe that's one of my many problems. I'm sure not doing that! Baller ForrestGump Posted April 25, 2014 Baller Share Posted April 25, 2014 The problem is that most lower level skiers leave their core behind when they start lifting their heels. There's more to what Nate does than just this. I think it probably allows him to drive his core forward more. But I wouldn't just focus on this one aspect of his technique. Baller A_B Posted April 25, 2014 Baller Share Posted April 25, 2014 If you have double boots, try skiing with the back one looser so your heel can slide up and down. I use double Stradas and feel my heel lifting in my back boot. When I ran hardshells, I had the "extra" rubber piece that allowed the heel to lift. It seems to make a difference for me. Baller GaryWilkinson Posted April 26, 2014 Baller Share Posted April 26, 2014 Wow that's interesting! I've been reading for years that heel lift is a no-no. Yet when I'm checking, I feel my heel lift often. It's seems required for balance. So I guess a bit is ok, what say you experts? Gw
Baller_ Wish Posted April 26, 2014 Baller_ Share Posted April 26, 2014 Not an expert but my rear hardshell is set where my heel can come off the bottom of the boot by what feels like 1/2 inch. I'm betting it's more. Also added a lift between boot heel and plate of the rear boot.
Baller PatM Posted April 26, 2014 Baller Share Posted April 26, 2014 the video of Mapple's heel when he skis does not lift a great deal. Maybe more shifting left to right than lifting. So its different for different skiers.
