Baller jimbrake Posted May 6, 2014 Baller Posted May 6, 2014 Love that old video. Lots of our sports greats in there.
Baller alex38 Posted May 6, 2014 Baller Posted May 6, 2014 Was my first ski school lesson there, will never forget it. Happy birthday Jack!!!!
Baller klindy Posted May 6, 2014 Baller Posted May 6, 2014 Cool!! Great video! It would scare me to death to ski on some of that old equipment today!
Baller SkiJay Posted May 6, 2014 Baller Posted May 6, 2014 @Horton Who is the fearless guy with the red helmet and beard?
Baller Edbrazil Posted May 6, 2014 Baller Posted May 6, 2014 Wow, happy Birthday! I hope that I can make it to 84 and beyond. Think that I see Bob and Kris LaPoint in some of the clips. I've never seen that video before. Back in February 1974, when we went to Horton Lake to do ski testing, I worked with Jack to change his foot-dimensioned course to Metric. From 855 feet overall to 259 meters. Jack is credited with creating the first private ski lake back in 1968, in the California desert.
Baller jipster43 Posted May 6, 2014 Baller Posted May 6, 2014 I can watch that video all day. Happy Birthday Jack! @SkiJay I think the bearded fellow has been identified as Bob LaPoint.
Baller skibug Posted May 6, 2014 Baller Posted May 6, 2014 Happy B-day Mr. Horton.....that video is awesome. Those slalom guys were getting it done!! I couldn't imagine having to hand drive those guys, especially with an outboard.
Baller Jordan Posted May 6, 2014 Baller Posted May 6, 2014 So cool!!!!!! Happy Birthday~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Baller jimbrake Posted May 6, 2014 Baller Posted May 6, 2014 Red helmet beard guy is most definitely BLP. KLP with the blond hair, headband, and Hexcel ski.
Baller alex38 Posted May 6, 2014 Baller Posted May 6, 2014 Dr. Horton gave me my first lesson, it was amazing
Baller cragginshred Posted May 6, 2014 Baller Posted May 6, 2014 Super cool, happy b-day to your pops!
Baller Bulldog Posted May 6, 2014 Baller Posted May 6, 2014 Happy Birthday Jack!!! That is a fantastic video! "Do Better..."
Baller dbressel Posted May 6, 2014 Baller Posted May 6, 2014 Awesome! Thanks for sharing this; when I see this stuff it re affirms why I love this sport. Especially when someone puts their own time & $ into the sport to help it grow. Props to your Dad and you. Thanks,
Baller Andre Posted May 6, 2014 Baller Posted May 6, 2014 More ! I want more! Great video and narration! Have a great birthday Jack! My ski finish in 16.95 but my ass is out of tolerance!

Baller Hugh Nichols Posted May 7, 2014 Baller Posted May 7, 2014 Happy Birthday! & Thank you Dr. Horton for all you have gave to a sport we all enjoy so much!!!!
Gold Member Than_Bogan Posted May 7, 2014 Gold Member Posted May 7, 2014 Congrats on 84! Who the F is jumping without a helmet? That whole jumping thing is silly enough WITH a helmet!
Baller thager Posted May 7, 2014 Baller Posted May 7, 2014 jah...jah...jah...Just like Hokey, didn't have to wear em.
Baller jimbrake Posted May 7, 2014 Baller Posted May 7, 2014 My first jump set ever at Suyderhoud's in 1976 - no helmet, NO JUMP PANTS. Just a pair of Hang Ten trunks, vest, and gloves. After two days of successful ride-overs Mike had me do a 3/4 cut. When he waved, I went. Amazingly I stayed over my skis and landed upright. Completely tore the crotch out of my trunks. I was so stoked I didn't care what that felt like. It was, needless to say, "a different time".
Administrators Horton Posted May 7, 2014 Author Administrators Posted May 7, 2014 @Than_Bogan I jumped maybe 155 without a brain bucket Connelly ★ Goode ★ HO Syndicate ★ KD Skis ★ MasterCraft ★ PerfSki Radar ★ Reflex ★ S Lines ★ Stokes ★ Baller Video Coaching System ★ Wake Lending Become a Supporting Member or make a One-time Donation

Baller Texas6 Posted May 8, 2014 Baller Posted May 8, 2014 That beard likely gave BLP at least two additional buoys
Baller SkiJay Posted May 8, 2014 Baller Posted May 8, 2014 I can't decide if I'm more surprised by how much jumping has changed, or by how little slalom skiing has.
Baller Edbrazil Posted May 8, 2014 Baller Posted May 8, 2014 Ol' Jack Horton is such an icon of the sport. I hope he stays along long enough so that Willard Scott will recognize him.
Baller skidawg Posted May 8, 2014 Baller Posted May 8, 2014 I remember the days of no helmet jumping, I was not as proficient as binding side up as horton
Baller Moskier3ev Posted May 8, 2014 Baller Posted May 8, 2014 Awesome video... Those jump crashes were brutal. Jeff Lindsey
Baller brhartw Posted May 8, 2014 Baller Posted May 8, 2014 Happy birthday Dr. Jack! Your lake was magic to skiers everywhere. The Horton Lake Super Masters remains one of the most prestigious tourneys of its day. You had to qualify top 5 to make the second round. Steve Cole provided action photography for trophies. A great memory.
Thelma_Salmas Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Congratulations Jack - Jim just turned 91 Lots of good memories made at Horton Lake
Baller EFW Posted August 23, 2016 Baller Posted August 23, 2016 Pretty cool father you got. Happy birthday to your dad. Do you guys still ski together?
