Administrators Horton Posted May 13, 2014 Author Administrators Share Posted May 13, 2014 In the unboxing I totally missed that the bracket is carbon fiber. It is light and super easy to install Goode ★ HO Syndicate ★ KD Skis ★ MasterCraft ★ PerfSki Radar ★ Reflex ★ S Lines ★ Stokes ★ Baller Video Coaching System Become a Supporting Member or make a One-time Donation
Baller Chuck_Dickey Posted May 13, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 13, 2014 @Horton I found it works better for me when mounted just to the right (Towards Driver) of the walk thru windshield. Just Right enough so you can easily walk thru. This way when you look up to the mirror, you don't have to look up and way left. Also, if you need to open the windshield, the mirror won't get banged around. Just my two cents.
Baller Chuck_Dickey Posted May 13, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 13, 2014 Here's a pic if my PTM mirror mounted more towards the drivers side. If you zoom in you'll see it better.
Baller waterskigirl Posted May 13, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 13, 2014 LOVE that mirror, once you get used to it regular mirrors seem crazy small...since I probably drive 700 hours a year I get to use it a lot :)
Baller Texas6 Posted May 13, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 13, 2014 I have the same mirror and it's a total game changer. Not only can you see more clearly, but you can see the skier on both sides of the wake with no adjustment - not just for a split second while they pass through the whitewater. Awesome product

Baller A_B Posted May 13, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 13, 2014 Do the mirrors fit in the standard brackets on any given ski boat? I see they sell separately, so it makes me think they will.
Baller Not_The_Pug Posted May 13, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 13, 2014 @Horton how is the carbon one for putting up and down when the cover goes on the boat at night? I have a PTM mirror but no bracket due to the buyer of this promo boat just wanted a standard mirror and not the upgraded one from Nautique. Trying to decide which bracket to order. Also if anyone has the ZXR-200 bracket, trying to decide between the Black or Aluminum. Will the black rub off over time if I use the towing cover? Thanks,
Administrators Horton Posted May 13, 2014 Author Administrators Share Posted May 13, 2014 @ab I think you need the PTM bracket but I am not 100% sure. @Krlee funny you ask. It took me 5 minutes to figure out how to put the mirror down. Once I broke down and read the instructions it is super easy. Baller Not_The_Pug Posted May 13, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 13, 2014 @Horton thanks for the info One more question (ok maybe more later), is the carbon bracket stable, i.e. no vibrations through the mirror. Want to get the best bracket for the money. Not ready to just drop $200 on a bracket.

Baller east tx skier Posted May 13, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 13, 2014 @AB If it's the same as the PTM mirror I bought a couple of years ago, it will work with the swivel type bracket from a CIPA Extreme. I bought the mirror alone and used my CIPA Extreme bracket with no issues.
Baller Waternut Posted May 13, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 13, 2014 I keep seeing these mirrors and all of the rave reviews but I'm being a stubborn ass on this one for a while longer. I don't really think I'm being a tightwad here as I would totally pay the $200 for a nice mirror so I can see everything my friends are doing in the mirror but I draw the line at having to pay an extra $90-$100 for a dinky proprietary bracket. It's nice to see they have a replacement option and I highly commend them on that. However, when they're willing to replace the guts and glory of the mirror and return ship it to you for $50 on the $200 mirror or $40 for the $100 mirror, it doesn't take a math major to realize that the mirror itself can't cost more than about $10-20 tops with some plastic behind it. Sorry for the rant. I really want one but I can't stomach the mark up at this time.
Baller Chef23 Posted May 14, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 14, 2014 It looks like there is a mount that will work on the bar mount that is already on my Malibu. I have a birthday coming up maybe I will get one for the boat.
Baller Onside135 Posted May 14, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 14, 2014 @Horton...The boat does have Lowes' colors...maybe you could swing that sponsorhip!
Baller kfennell Posted May 14, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 14, 2014 @waternut You can buy a Cipa mirror from amazon for $30 and throw the mirror away and then you have a $30 mount that works great :)
Baller oldjeep Posted May 14, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 14, 2014 @Chef23 the mount only works with the Malibu bar if you chop the bar in half - mount doesn't open enough to get around bar. Got this info from another baller who had already gone that route. He even sent me some pics of the setup
Baller Waternut Posted May 14, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 14, 2014 Thanks guys. Maybe I'll be able to snag one of these mirrors after all. @oldjeep Do you have the details or pics of that Malibu bar?
countymountie
I picked a bracket up on SIA for my CIPA extreme mirror . It is very solid, nicely made and folds down great when I put on the cover.
Baller oldjeep Posted May 14, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 14, 2014 @Waternut This was the thread that @davemac directed me to with pictures of what he had to do to make it work. Seems odd that for all the $$$$$$ that they get for their stuff that there isn't a mount that works on the bar that comes on every Malibu. http://www.themalibucrew.com/forums/index.php?/topic/37481-ptmedge-mirror-on-03-rlxi/?hl=mirror

Baller Chef23 Posted May 14, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 14, 2014 Has anyone used the VR-100 and know if you can see out to the buoy line with it? It is $100 cheaper.
Baller east tx skier Posted May 15, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 15, 2014 @kfennell Unless something has changed, the regular CIPA mirror mount won't work. It's the mount for the CIPA Extreme mirror that works with this one. Not sure if you can buy the mount separately from CIPA or its dealers. Baller Waternut Posted May 16, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 16, 2014 I emailed CIPA this afternoon about a tower style mount since that's how I have my current mirror mounted. Will let people know if they respond. They do sell the windshield mounts on their site though for.....wait for it....$136.50. For the record, that's more than they sell the mirror and mount on the same site so not sure what's up with that crap.
Baller Waternut Posted May 16, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 16, 2014 Scratch that idea... CIPA only makes windshield mounts. I'm half tempted to buy the PTM mirror and fab my own mount out of carbon.
Gus
I got the PTM 140 with bracket, the one so gracefully unpacked here by horton, but I find the mirror is mounted too high, and a bit too far away from the driver (1997 ski nautique). I get a stiff neck from looking upwards and the image is smaller than it should be. Then I saw that the new ski nautiques have the same 140 mirror, but use a different mount, much more the way I'd like it: not so high and a bit closer to the driver. I asked ski nautique where to get such a mount, but no response. Does anyone here know?

Baller Keith_Menard Posted August 9, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 9, 2018 Love mine...I always try to be careful when lowering it because I don't want to break the windshield, but it doesn't vibrate...it's great.

Baller RAWSki Posted August 10, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 10, 2018 Does anyone have suggestion on adjusting the mirror (trim up down) with the ZXR bracket? Our buddie's mirror always seems low ----you don't see the skier just the ski and legs. Have tried using the knob in the back of the mirror without luck. Baller Keith_Menard Posted August 10, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 10, 2018 @DaveD Guilty. It was one of the few times we had the lake to ourselves since it was fall. We each took turns skiing/boarding with a shark head on. Not something I would do with other boats around...but still no excuse either.
