IheartJump
I hope someone has already done the research... can someone tell me what the rules are for slalom courses in Orange County, FL? I have a portable course that I was hoping to leave in on a "public" lake. The waters are public, but there is no public access ramp and so it is semi-private. Do I need permits to put it in and take it out each day? Do I need permits to leave it in for an extended period of time? Thanks!
ChadW
I ski on 2 courses in Orange County. One on lake Sybelia, semi-private like you mentioned above and one on lake minnehaha, fully public. Both are permanent and both have permits. Rollins college is in Orange County and on a public lake, they often have 2 portable courses out for their ski team, but I have no idea on their permit situation. IheartJump
Alright thanks... Where do I apply for the permit? And do I need permission from the people who "own the lake bottom" where the anchors are? Someone told me I did need to do that
Baller liquid d Posted May 31, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 31, 2014 it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission. If you don't mind it possible dissappearing, just put it in and leave it. Try to use as much as possible, to keep an eye on it. Also, promote anyone you see on the lake ...even stopping them and suggesting they try out the new course..offer help to promote it's use/etc....kids especially. Permits are lengthy propositions. No one will give you any crap unless someone complains. Orlando is used to them;they are on so many lakes. It's not like folks won't know what it is. Try not to put it too close to anyone's shore that it's "in the way or an eyesore".

ChadW
The permits we have on the courses I referenced above are both over 10 years old. I wasn't involved in the process, so I'm not sure who you would contact.
Baller skierjp Posted May 31, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 31, 2014 Get a PERMIT. We live in Polk County and have 4 permitted courses. There will always be at least one home owner on the lake that will give you trouble. Contact the DEP. It will cost about $200 and will take about 30 days. The permit is your only protection for keeping the course. If you have a floating course you might be able to put it in without a permit as long as you sink it when not in use. The only problem is this could give the home owners advanced ammunition against you when you go to permit the course.
