Baller gt2003 Posted May 4, 2015 Baller Share Posted May 4, 2015 Finally hopped in the water for the first time this year. I haven't been on a ski since I joined this site so there was a lot going on in my head the first time up. I am so new that my thoughts may not be relevant for many but thanks for the advice. It was open water, free skiing so I thought I would do my best to work on one thing that I've read here over the winter, handle to hip. First impression...WOW. I felt that I didn't lose contact with the boat on the turn. There seemed to be much less "hit' that I had to take after the turn. I'm assuming less slack in the rope. Second thought, damn I shot across those wakes really quickly! Anyway, thanks again for the advice. It was fun putting theory into practice. I'm going to work on this for the next few outings then move onto body position as I'm crossing the wake. This looks so easy in videos of you all. Cutting, body transition to more upright, glide then into the next turn. Not nearly as easy in reality (because I had to try it once or twice). Anyway just wanted to pass along my appreciation. I'm now looking even more forward to this year in the water.
Baller_ lpskier Posted May 5, 2015 Baller_ Share Posted May 5, 2015 When working on something new, you may find it useful to slow the boat down/let the rope out. A lot. Gives you more time to think about what you want to accomplish. Lpskier
Baller gt2003 Posted May 5, 2015 Author Baller Share Posted May 5, 2015 Thanks LP. I was at full line length and skiing at 30 mph. I'll try to slow it down a bit next time I'm not sure how much I can get away with at 210 lbs but I am on a 69 inch WIDE ski. I was so surprised when I came here at the end of last ski year for me and realized how bad my technique was. So, time to do my best to start at a good, solid level. I'm looking forward to improving over the next few months!
