Think about how quickly you have to make that decision.... Go for the turn and ball 3 or get all of ball 2 and "S" turn for the full 2. Mind boggling to think when you know which and how quickly that decision has to be made before it is to late. Literally a blink of an eye. If you do not commit to one or the other, I suspect that happens. But that is purely speculation.

Of the four skiers who've run 10.25 in the last 12 months, only CP has skied around buoy number 2 at 9.75. A feat he's accomplished five times. Yet never received credit for the full 2 buoys. He has scored 2 twice. In 2005 and 2010. Getting a full two must be wicked hard at 9.75.

@drewski32 I'm all for changing the scoring system to make that true (and I'm being completely serious), but as it stands now 2 > 1.5, so I don't think I understand what you mean.

@gjohnson Are you excluding Nate Smith? "Surely" it hasn't been a full year since he did it?

I just looked up his scores on usawaterski.org and the first one more than 1 was in 2013. He has had some back issues, but I believe is doing ok physically right now and is just working out some issues with his ski. I fully expect him to round 2 ball again in the near future

What I mean is it is more difficult to turn the ski and point at 3-ball like you mean business. Being able to turn 2 takes a lot more than barely getting there and standing up. If I see a skier turn a ball and go down trying I think he is more than capable of getting to the next on a good day. If he stands up, I might not think he's even close to getting to the next ball any time soon. In the video it looked to me like CP could've turned. He still would've scored 1.5, but it would've been more impressive.

@rico the reason I'm so surprised is because he had agreat 1. He was likely too fast to turn and get away with it, but he was by no means barely squeaking by. Pause when he's right on top of two... so relaxed

I can't run hose buoys and don't know what CP was thinking at any point. Looked to me like he actually got to much at one and was pulled up into two. It also looked like before he got to the apex of two he knew he wasn't going to three.

I am glad there are a short list of likely suspects that could all push the record. No doubt when one gets to 2 ball the others feel it. Probably no better motivator for those guys than that.
