Sunghwan Lee
Hello. I am one of ballers in South Korea. I make bulletin at first time. Because there are not many people who knows Fin Setting well in Korea. And I know you guys in BOS are very good at Fin Setting. Good-Fin tech guys. I hope you can give me some advise. I got my new Quest 45 recently. And I'm not so well on Fin Setting. But I've tried so many setting to get perfect setting. For 3 years I've tried hundreds of Fin numbers but I'm still struggling on it. Of course I now know many things than before. But many time, I do wrong choices and do looping again and again. This time, I have the courage to show my video and want to ask about my Fin-setting. In following video, I feel wheelie at turns(especially in offside turn) and I think I need more fin length. Is it right? I need your help. Thank you!
Gold Member Than_Bogan Posted May 6, 2015 Gold Member Share Posted May 6, 2015 I am NOT one of the fin experts here. (@SkiJay) But what a cool looking site!! I last visited Korea about 10 years ago. Hope to make it back someday!
Administrators Horton Posted May 6, 2015 Administrators Share Posted May 6, 2015 @Sunghwan Lee you do not look like you need to move your fin. If anything I might take away .005 in depth and then NOTHING else. You should only move your fin when something is wrong and in that video your ski looks pretty good. Baller_ Bruce_Butterfield Posted May 6, 2015 Baller_ Share Posted May 6, 2015 Welcome Sunghwan! The ski looks like it's working properly, so I would not change the fin at this time. I would try 2 things: 1. Pull out wider on your gates 2. Drive your hips up through the wakes on both sides Good luck. If it was easy, they would call it Wakeboarding
Baller Roger Posted May 6, 2015 Baller Share Posted May 6, 2015 Bruce nailed it to me, you are starting the course late at one ball. Get farther up on the boat in the glide for the gate so you get cast out wider and finish the turn at the ball (instead of starting the turn there). I think that will make a world of difference for you.

Baller jdk99 Posted May 6, 2015 Baller Share Posted May 6, 2015 @Bruce_Butterfield, can you elaborate on "2. Drive your hips up through the wakes on both sides" More specifically, what movement/muscle action are you suggesting?
Baller swc5150 Posted May 6, 2015 Baller Share Posted May 6, 2015 From the little screen I'm using, it looks like you lose your stack coming off your off-side turn (2,4,6). Seth Stisher has a drill that helped me immensely in becoming more symmetrical...
Baller_ Bruce_Butterfield Posted May 7, 2015 Baller_ Share Posted May 7, 2015 @jdk99, its really body alignment and, as much as I hate to use Horton's terms, stack. There are many ways to think about it, but I think its better to tie your handle to the pylon or a tree and get in a leaning position. Play around with that and get your shoulders, handle, hips, and feet in a straight line with the pylon. When done correctly, it will feel easier and the handle will be physically touching your hips. Note the big gap between the handle and hips in the pics below. If it was easy, they would call it Wakeboarding
Sunghwan Lee
Thank you guys. I got many ideas from you. First, I got good fin number.(Maybe I will stick with this number for long.) Thank you Horton. I took out some Depth(0.008). The arc near the ball is much better even though there was strong wind today. Maybe you are a Fin wizard. Second, I think I have to do practice for wide and early gate shot and 1 ball. That is my first weak point. Thank you Bruce_Butterfield and Roger. I understand what you guys are saying. I didn't focus on my faulty gate before. I think it's my first problem in skiing technic. Third, Pull posture. It is basic of basics. But I always forgot the importance of it. Thank you guys. You gave me many advises and ideas. I will keep up with your advises for long time. Today's video. (windy, took out Depth) Head wind. Tail wind.
