@fox197 no I have had only 3 rides. Not great rides... no fault of the ski. I have some idea what I am going to like when I get some quality rides.

I got the secret settings from the factory today.... same as the factory settings I should have started with. First ride with those settings was .... well about how I ski after spending 10 hours at work :-(

The second set on those settings was perhaps my best set so far this year. I am getting my head around this ski.

As always I know early impressions can be totally wrong so I am not saying a lot

@Live2ski stupid me called around to find out what the hot numbers were. The stock numbers are way better than the information I received. Completely rookie move on my part

@ilivetoski. A 36mph 39 off buddy off mine started on a 67 and told me he couldn't really get it to work so he downsized to a 66 and fireworks went off. I would say he's on the light side for a 67 so it was a good call too go shorter.

@Ilivetoski only one or two rides? As the years go on I realize that my opinion after less than 10 rides is generally wrong. I am I think 8 rides in on V Type and it was until the last 3 where I got it. I can't tell you how many times on others skis I thought it was amazing the first three and then decided I was wrong

Also if you get a ton of angle a slow turn may be better as long as it doesn't put you down course. Personally I need a ski that finishes further inside the ball line

@ozski Not much chance down my way of getting a chance to try both skis. I wish I could. I'm coming off of a A2 so really leaning towards the v. But there hasn't been much hype about it like the vapor and d3s. And ive had a run on the Vapor for 2 weeks and hated it with a passion. Couldn't get comfortable.

I went from an A2 to an S2 to an A3. I thought each one was an improvement over the last. Plus, they were all skis I felt immediately comfortable on. I expect the V type will be even more refined. I'm not on an HO right now, but I'd like to get my hands on a V type.

Ooooooo boy best ride of year.... again. This thing is getting better. Might be a contender for MOASS.

OB and Scuppers may have a point, I was starting to think likewise, would a review be best done by a group of skiers (different levels) and then collate the information.

@Horton is a great skier, he seems to get on with most skis, but for some it's not like that.

@OB I think that's the "problem": None of these ski suck at anything. But there will be things they do better or worse.

Then add on to that that skis are just plain getting better. Indeed, why would anybody release a ski that wasn't at least overall better? So every year's crop being the best skis ever is not just possible but expected!

The worst part of reviewing skis is that two different skiers may have almost exactly opposite experience on some aspect of a given ski. I like @Horton's reviews a ton, but it's only when I've read the detailed experience of several different people that I can start to think a ski might be worth my cash.

That was why I wrote my own review on the N1, and strongly encourage other people to do the same.

I think there is much more to be learned from reading separate reviews than from anybody trying to "aggregate" people's experience into a composite review.

I think john explains very clearly in his reviews what technique will match what characteristic of that ski.

If you can't execute the specific technique, that ski will suck for you.

I have actually been currently rereading his A2 review in order to maximize the potential in my ski (A2)

I wouldn't read one his reviews and buy a ski, I would buy a ski then read the review, like a manual almost really.

@alex38 I try to describe the ski so if you know your strengths and weaknesses it should help you make a choice. Nothing replaces demo demo demo.

I just re-read the A2 review. I am proud of that one. Some skis are easy to write about and some are painful.

I agree with @Horton - demo demo demo. In my opinion this is why SIA works so well. The OB4 system didn't work for me, however, the guy that bought it from me loves it. Both of us are happy. Do your homework and take a chance. If you experiment carefully and methodically then you'll become a better skier.

@Christian Brunner Mmmmmm one clip of one pro at the point of failure does not say much about the ski. On the other hand the V Type does forgive an impatient on side turn so I can for sure show you some tip up exits.

Yes I will try to get out some video soon.

There is plenty of video out there of skiers at their hardest passes where there is tip rise. Video of Regina comes to mind where she runs some difficult passes with tip rise. At their hardest passes no skier looks as clean as they do at their easier passes.

The Green Vapor review was on the money. After riding it for more than a year, I went back and re-read the review and John nailed it. The reviews are good, all of the high end skis are good. He's subtle with the downsides, but he definitely addresses them. Keep it up Horton

I reread the Prophecy review after I had been skiing on mine for a while and became frustrated with it. I found that I had to ski technically correct on that ski otherwise it would punish me. That's basically what the review said, but I had to read the review again to fully grasp the content. My technique is not as correct as Horton's, and I have to take that into consideration when reading the reviews.
