collegiate ski team practice scheduling

Just watched the flowpoint video on collegiate skiing...good stuff.

 

Curious to know how teams run their practices. It was tough for us back in the day as only a few were competent with a boat and we had just one boat. That meant myself or a few others always had to be present and were trying to get our skiing in as well. Given time constraints it was tough even on a small team to get everyone through.

 

How do most collegiate teams schedule their practices? How long/often? Are certain practices dedicated to certain disciplines ie) trick practice? How many competent drivers do you have and how do you train new ones and ensure that they are safe with 350 hp in their hands?

I know that at the University of Texas, they have designated drivers. Those drivers will communicate out to the rest of the team just before or up to a day before they are planning to be at the lake via various means. The other members simply show up if they can. Pretty laid back. No formal schedule.

Iowa uses an app called groupme for mass texts. Typically senior members are checking the weather and organize practice times and boat turn overs.

 

Freshmen start getting supervised time behind the wheel and pull supervised trick skiing and in their sophomore year get full certified by long term drivers.

 

If you have 4+ drivers it's not uncommon for the boat to be out for 8 hours in a day because the boat crews will keep swapping out.
