Tommy's Slalom Shop and Malibu save tournament skiing in Central and Western Colorado

Last summer was the final season that Colorado had any

promo's that could pull the Mountain and Western Slope tournaments. We

thought tournament skiing in our half of the state was done. Tommy's Slalom

Shop in Denver stepped up big time and is providing a promo Malibu that will

pull our tournaments in the mountains and west, as well as the Front Range

tournaments. Tommy's has teamed up with HO team skier Bryan Reinke, who has

committed to bringing the new 2016 Malibu across the state to pull Junior

Development camps, tournaments, and host some youth and pro coaching clinics. I want to give

a big shout out to Tommy's Slalom Shop, Malibu, and Bryan for stepping up

and keeping skiing alive in our part of the state! Without their efforts,

another part of the tournament skiing community would be gone.

Promo boat programs seem to be on the wane. In NY, as far as I know we only have promo Nautiques, and only a few of them at that. Unless I leave the New York (and Vermont), I rarely ski behind MC, Malibu or Centurian. That's fine as far as it goes, but it makes Regionals and Nationals a little more interesting.

That's awesome @spartanskier10 . I didn't realize that Tommy's had other locations. One in Colorado, two in Michigan, and one in Florida. It's nice to know they stepped up for you guys as well. That's commitment to our sport!!

@303skier We are the only western slope tournament this year, Grand Junction has been out of it for years now, and Dotsero is taking the year off. So besides the Front Range, it is only Montrose (2 days), Kodiak, and Steamboat (1 day each). As far as I know, Bryan is planning on pulling Kodiak and Steamboat as well as ours with the new Malibu, since there are no other promo's left to pull the mountain and west tournaments. We are also trying to organize a Kids camp here, and Bryan is working on setting up a few others on the Front Range that will be sponsored by Tommy's, Malibu, and HO. Come on out for our tournament at the end of July. It is a great event, and we'd love to have you here!

@Marco Sounds great, I am glad you guys got a promo boat for those tournaments. I know a few years ago Laku had to pull one of their boats all the way up to Carbondale and I think the year before that someone else did. I'm glad to see those tournaments still going strong! I'm a little bummed that Dotsero/Mike isn't hosting a tournament this year but with everything going on, I can understand.

I'm planning to come out for both days in Montrose, I'm looking forward to it and finally skiing your lake!

@303Skier Great, glad you are coming out. We have great on site camping if your little one is old enough to camp. It is a bummer that Mike is not hosting one this year at. He announced last year that he was done with tournament skiing. I hope he changes his mind, but I can understand where he is coming from.

@Marco I bought a Scamp camper so I will definitely bring it out! My little boy will be 7 months at that point so he will be joining us :) See you guys at the tournaments soon! Should be a good year. And agree, sad about Mike and him deciding to hang it up. I hope he comes back and I think he will.

Big thanks to Tommy's Slalom Shop, Malibu Boats, and to Bryan Reinke for again providing a sweet new 2017 Malibu to pull the Colorado tournament scene. This past weekend they pulled our tournaments at Vision Lake in Montrose. More than 200 pulls over a two day period. Everyone loved the boat. It is a dream to drive and to ski behind. Butter soft wakes and incredible tracking.

We implemented a new concept this year. We charged $5 per day per skier (including club members and comp'd officials) as a boat fee, 100% of which went to cover the costs for the boat. We were able to give more than $500 to cover the costs of providing and insuring the boat, not to mention the cost of gas to haul it over the Rockies to our site.

We are truly grateful for Tommy's, Malibu Boats, and Bryan Reinke's dedication to supporting tournament skiing in Colorado. Without their support, we would not be able to host our annual tournament, which has turned into a pretty big annual event.
