Problems with website

@Horton I'm having trouble loading pages on BOS on my Galaxy S6.

Both with Chrome and Dolphin browsers.

It occurs when I visit a thread I visited before to view recent posts, first I sometimes have to refresh the page for the most recent posts to show then lately I get a error loading the page message.

Have not changed any settings in my browsers.

Same on Galaxy S5. I noticed this additional info:

This happens when I let my phone go to lock, then come back to the chrome browser. Upon return, the tab is blank, white if the last page viewed was a forum message. There is no site wrapper visible either. Thus, I have to manually remove the URL text and go back to the home page, then forums, then I can view threads. I haven't tried ending a session on the home page and then seeing what happens when I come back after it has locked.

I've had no issues on my laptop. (Win7 Chrome)

@DanE & @Than_Bogan

Your issue is one that I 100% understand and am 100% pissed off about. I assume you that when navigating the site you use the back button on your phone. (Bottom left of your phone) When you use the back button the site loads a cached version of of the page. This is total bullshit but it is a change that Vanilla made in the last 6 months. If you can get yourself to not use the back button the issue will go away. Again I agree this is total bullshit. I can not change it

@Wish the Error loading page is new. I am looking at it today.

@mmosley899 This I have no idea about.

@toddL that is legitimately a bug. I am working on that ASAP. I think it is the same issue as what @Wish is talking about.

To everyone else who reads this. I do not know of any issue from the desktop. I am pretty sure the site is actually rock solid from the desktop. There are some issues from mobile and it is a lot like playing "whack a mole"

So I think you prefer the more info the better so this is a pic of what I get. If the page does not load it remains a blank page. Even if the page loads, this spinner and error message exists for a few seconds and the disappearseqqudwoetq3k.jpg

Before I get a number of replies about the back button issue - that I really do not want to spend time answering - I think VanillaForum software is the best product on the market. In order to keep Vanilla and meet my other business and technical goals I had to create a bit of a Franken-site. The only problems I know of with the current state of the site are from mobile browsers.

I have spend a lot of hours setting up and testing other forum products. With out spending 10s of thousands of dollars for a really developer the current site configuration is about as good as I can put together.

I do what I can to make the site as good as possible for as many Ballers as possible. When we get to mobile things get a lot more complicated.

@Horton Not exactly, I figured out the back button issue myself.

The biggest issue is that I get a cached version when I start from the forum home page and click on a thread that is highlighted with let's say 5 new posts.

Click on that, no new posts since my last visit shows then when I hit refresh I get the same result as @Wish last post in this thread.

Ok guys one thing at a time. We got an undated mobile template a week ago and I think that is crap.

Now lets see how long it takes me to get support from that vendor. Gimme a few days.

Well, guess I'll keep using it until it is gone, although folks have been saying that for at least the last 5 years. Dont believe every droid/iJunk fanboy article you read. Had android and iphones, wouldn't give up my wp for either one.

Yup, read the same article. What it says is that units are not increasing per year. No suprise since you dont need to upgrade wp phones everytime they upgrade the os. The verge isnt exactly a reliable source for anything in the ms ecosystem anyways. When ms (who owns Nokia) says that windows phone is dead then I'll worry. The fact that ms is calling the next gen of windows phone surface phones doesn't mean anything other than they will have a new name and come in phablet sizes too.

Ok I burned a whole day on this. The final solution took all day to find and took maybe 5 seconds to execute.

@DanE @Than_Bogan @Wish @MISkier @mmosley899

If you still have the same issues let me kmow.

If you do not see any issues then lets forget this ever happened.

@Horton, it seems to be working well for me. My profile stats are even correct. I had noticed that the various counters would be old and would show the current values if I refreshed. Now, they were correct on the first access. It seems the thread viewing is up-to-date as well and no caching or required refreshing. The "Error Loading Page" pinwheel is gone, too.

The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.

@Horton,

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but there is one ongoing thing that's been a minor annoyance since I started using the site (feel free to tell me to go away, won't bother me)...

I'm running Firefox on Win7 btw, not sure it matters.

Most forum software when you get to the bottom of page 1, and click the "next page" or "2" link, the scroll resets to the top. For some reason BoS doesn't do this, resulting in a blank page scrolled all the way to the bottom, and you have to manually move to the top to continue reading a thread. Any reason for this?

Anyway, like I said not a huge issue, just a minor annoyance.

Hmmm the whole site looks like that. If I turn my phone sideways I can see most but lose some of the it to the right. I've shut down phone and closed the BOS page and opened fresh one and it's the same. Safari is all I use on my phone..aka what it came with.

Haaaa I see it now

@Wish go to the bottom of the screen and click "RETURN TO MOBILE SITE" or if you really screwed it up click "MOBILE VERSION". You might have to close all browsers or restart to get everything correct.

(self inflicted)
