At what level is the new Goode Flextail a benefit?

I am curious as to what level of skier you guys who are skiing on a Flextail think it's a benefit? Will the ski help increase the buoy count of someone skiing at 34 mph 22-32 off? Or do you see most gains at a shorter rope length 36 mph? The technology is extremely interesting just not sure how practical for the average skier. Thanks for your input.

@skifan 34 mph 22-32 off is the "meat and potatoes" of all ski companies. They love it when the pros ski good on their skis but really you are the target audience (my opinion). Skiers at your level often accept old gear as being good enough and I think that is a tragic error. Pro level skiers can rip on anything.

@skifan a 30 day demo program with return if you don't think it is for you........ No brainer in my eyes.

I spent a little time on the new REV6 this winter, and that is the ski I would suggest if you are interested. I had a great relationship with my flextail last summer, BUT this new REV6 is a step up in many ways. More stable and connected feeling. More predictable than the previous version flextail. AND I SAY THIS HAVING REALLY LIKED THE 3 tournament scores I posted into 39.5 last summer on my flextail. PB of 2@39.5

What are you on now? Let me know if I can help you along the way.

Thank you guys for the info.

@Texas6 Understood it's what fits your personal style. Being up in the Northeast with no Ski Shops it's hard to get your hands on many new skis, although I have tried.

@GOODESkier I am currently on a Radar Vapor. The reason I ask the question is over the last 3 years I have tried many different skis that I have bought or traded on SIA. I went from a Connelly V to an HO A2 to a Maple 6.1 to a Goode Nano 1 to to a Goode 9900 sl Wide ride to a Radar Vapor. I also demoed a D3 Quest 45 and a Helix 2. Each of these skis had their pros and cons. Of all of them the ski I liked the best is the Quest 45. The Flextail makes me nervous to spend that much money when they have had 3 versions of the ski in two years, I may however demo the Rev6 when the ice goes away.

That was the main reason for my original question, trying to justify the cost of a new top end ski. As @Horton mentioned the pros can ski 38 off on a 2x4. I try not to get caught up on the hype the companies use to promote a new ski.

Well, company philosophies may be different.......... if you are working R&D year round and find a tweak too good to not release to the public. The REV6 really is going to make more people happy than the previous version.

The FT1 models are not a different version of the ski if you are including that in the mix. There is the flextail REV5 (2015 version) and this new REV6 (2016 version).........

You'll have to call GOODE on that one..........

What size XT were you on and what size Flextail did you try? Who set it up for you? Remember your binding placement numbers and fin settings? There were two distinctive "variations" that worked well, and lots of people spent time chasing settings that didn't work as well. My ski worked really well with either of the settings that were somewhat common place for the test team to be on. I love my flextail, but see the positives of this Rev6 helping lots more people fall in love with the ski.

I am on 65.25 Nano1, I believe the FT was a 67, I tried my normal setting for a Goode, and then settings that Dave provided which I recall was much longer and shallower. Tried for a month, 35s were good, never could run 38 at all. Pulled my Nano1XT from garage, ran 28,32,35,38, 3@39 and sent the FT back (actually handed to Dave at Nationals).

@JackQ Maybe your style suits you better with the Nano FT1 shape? Did you just ski it at the one set up, or did you try some dialing in based on what you felt and saw? Just trying to get a feel for if there was any room to make the ski better for you through a different set up? Where are you from?

I think it is my style, I am weak in the turns particularly my on-side, but I can hold an edge very well, and tend to hang on the handle a long day and change edges relatively well. The Nano1 seem to forgive my sins in the turns and I can make up for it's lack of acceleration. That is why my favorite all time ski was a ICON sonic6. I tried many setups on the FT without success.

I have been a Maryland skier for the last 20 years, but move to Jacksonville, FL 3 months ago.
