Baller UWSkier Posted February 15, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 15, 2016 Since it's frigid and snowing again here in the Midwest, I figured I'd geek out on getting some gear ready to go for next month (hopefully) when the ice goes out. For you guys who run Vapor Boots, any best practices regarding the stiffener shims? Run them on both sides, insides only, outsides only, or is this a YMMV thing based on an individual's tendency to pronate or supinate? For reference, I'm coming off Animals. Administrators Horton Posted February 15, 2016 Administrators Share Posted February 15, 2016 I thought I wanted to use them. I tried them but the bindings are way better without them California Ski Ranch ★ Denali ★ DryRobe ★ Goode ★ KD Skis★ MasterCraft ★ MasterLine ★ PerfSki ★ Radar ★ Reflex★ S Lines ★ Stokes
Baller Roger Posted February 15, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 15, 2016 I've been skiing on these bindings since they were introduced as the RS1 series. I got the newest version this year and left the stiffeners in and literally could not run a pass, they make that much difference. I was able to run a pass on the fourth attempt, but decided to remove them until after the Winter is over. Coming from Animals, I'd start with no stiffeners and after you get used the system, try them first in the front boot. If you like that and after you're fully used to it that way, then try adding them to the rear binding. I'm going to do the same progression, but for now they feel just like my previous bindings which did not have the inserts available. I suspect more control is available with them in at least the front binding, but it's a big change, so you need time to adjust to the new level of edge sensitivity. Administrators Horton Posted February 15, 2016 Administrators Share Posted February 15, 2016 @Roger i recommend you just skip it California Ski Ranch ★ Denali ★ DryRobe ★ Goode ★ KD Skis★ MasterCraft ★ MasterLine ★ PerfSki ★ Radar ★ Reflex★ S Lines ★ Stokes
Baller Wolfeie Posted February 15, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 15, 2016 Several of us with Vapor boots had the same problem. The inserts radically change the dynamics such that easy passes without inserts were much harder with. We started without the inserts on the first models, so if your new to the boots difference may be much less.
Baller Texas6 Posted February 15, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 15, 2016 I've had these since they were introduced, and have been through several pairs. They are hands down my favorite bindings - without the stiffeners
Baller UWSkier Posted February 15, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted February 15, 2016 sensing a pattern. Thanks guys! I'll mold them with the stiffeners out.

Baller Texas6 Posted April 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 8, 2016 What size new Vapor are you riding, and where did you mount the boots (distance from tail to the stitching on the bottom of the heel of the front boot)?

Baller paul413ski Posted April 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 8, 2016 Just a note I have left the insole this time before in the old boot I was just skiing with the linerv
Baller Texas6 Posted April 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 8, 2016 That really shouldn't matter honestly. I run my insoles below my liners rather than in them and find it more comfortable, but doubt it has any impact on tip rise either way
Baller The_MS Posted April 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 8, 2016 Check to make sure that your spacing between the bindings is still the same. I would bet it is rear binding related.
Baller paul413ski Posted April 9, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 9, 2016 Thanks for your help guys will measure the spacing with new and old boots on and see what I can find from there :)
