RPT
Well we will know if they miss buoy!
Baller Edbrazil Posted March 4, 2016 Baller Share Posted March 4, 2016 I started back in the days before official buoys. A 'solution' was half-inflated inner tubes, folded twice. Or, gluing suction cups onto beach balls. The other course on my lake, at one time, used hard foam mooring buoys, with a pigtail of wire sticking up. You could see who was using that course by the scratches on their legs. They could be forgiven because they were mainly jumpers.
Baller PatM Posted March 4, 2016 Baller Share Posted March 4, 2016 @Wish other than the obvious photo-shopped head of TGas that looks like a recent photo. Was a recent picture of someone goofing with old equipment? The quality looks to good to be that old
Baller_ lpskier Posted March 4, 2016 Baller_ Share Posted March 4, 2016 The gloves are a give away. Gloves first appeared (Ed will correct me if I am wrong) in the late 60's/early 70's. Lpskier
Baller Edbrazil Posted March 5, 2016 Baller Share Posted March 5, 2016 In his writings, maybe even late 1950's, Warren mentioned that he used garden gloves. As in gardening, not Cypress Gardens.
Baller eleeski Posted March 5, 2016 Baller Share Posted March 5, 2016 Gardening gloves rock for skiing! When they get old and sticky, they are great in the garden. I have turned many skiers on to garden gloves. Eric
Baller thager Posted March 5, 2016 Baller Share Posted March 5, 2016 My ski partner was using garden gloves about 1968 or so. AWSA sold gloves which were a little better soon after that. Most of the handles back then didn't hold up very long with gloves, maybe a couple weeks and the rubber was shot.
Baller Edbrazil Posted March 7, 2016 Baller Share Posted March 7, 2016 Going back even earlier, here is what the slalom course at the 1939 Jones Beach Nationals looked like. Not an actual picture from the Nationals, but similar course.
Baller aupatking Posted March 7, 2016 Baller Share Posted March 7, 2016 @Edbrazil what was the boat path?
Baller Edbrazil Posted March 7, 2016 Baller Share Posted March 7, 2016 Best as I know, at the actual Jones Beach event, the boat ran parallel to the buoys, and the skier weaved in and out. About like a long 'flush' in snow skiing. The modern slalom course may have made its debut at the 1947 Nationals, organized by Chuck Sligh. Baller Wayne Posted March 7, 2016 Baller Share Posted March 7, 2016 @Edbrazil do you know if the skier had to cross the wake while "in the course" at those early events?
