Baller Orlando76 Posted March 31, 2016 Baller Share Posted March 31, 2016 If they're family, my chances of trusting them with my boat or gear is even less!
Baller_ MISkier Posted March 31, 2016 Baller_ Share Posted March 31, 2016 At one of the clubs I belong to, we have a ski league on Tuesday and bring our own boats. I commute a long distance and often arrive after it has begun. In order to take my turn providing the boat, I have had to leave it at a club member's house the day before league and have them trailer it and start the league. In one case, I was unexpectedly detained at work and missed the entire league. But, it wasn't a huge risk for me, as I bought the boat as a demo/promo from one of the members who was the custodian of the boat for that missed league night. I know how he treated it before he sold it to me and the fact that he still asks how I am treating it tells me he wouldn't let anything happen. So, the real question is: what do you need to see from the borrower to agree to lending your ski equipment? I'll loan out handles, ropes, gloves, vests and my backup ski (which I have with me always) with no problem. My main ski and my drysuit would really need to be special circumstances to loan out. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller_ The_MS Posted March 31, 2016 Baller_ Share Posted March 31, 2016 I would loan my ski to @Dirt any day of the week.

Baller igkya Posted April 1, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 1, 2016 If I don't trust myself with my gear, how could I trust anyone else?
Baller_ lpskier Posted April 1, 2016 Baller_ Share Posted April 1, 2016 I suppose if I trust someone enough to drive for me, I'd trust them with most of my gear. I trust my ski partner Terence Fogarty with my gear and boat and children under any circumstance. Lpskier
Baller eleeski Posted April 1, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 1, 2016 I used to be a bit uptight about my boat until the meth heads found me. Now I'd rather have my buddies ding my boat then have some random jerk crash the boat in the cattails to steal the battery. And it's fun to watch people try my skis! Baller skialex Posted April 1, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 1, 2016 I trust only a couple of friends with my ski and only if they use my plates or plates that have been prepared by me, I would loan the rest of my gear but gloves and handle only if it is absolutely necessary. Baller Edbrazil Posted April 1, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 1, 2016 From several years back, Open skiers would have personal towlines starting at 28 or 32. "Can I borrow your towline?" "Sure...here." "Uhhh...where's 15 off?"
Baller oldjeep Posted April 1, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 1, 2016 Very few people are allowed to drive my boat, anyone is welcome to skis, ropes, jackets, gloves.
Baller Chef23 Posted April 1, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 1, 2016 I ski with quite a few different people and let them drive my boat and I would let most of them use my ski. I am bigger than most of my ski partners and they wouldn't want to use my ski anyway.
Baller LOTW Posted April 1, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 1, 2016 I picked up an old ski, large vest and keep and old set of gloves in the boat to loan out to people. I'm not too excited about people using my gear so I've stepped up and provided. Like an old friend once told me "you can't have fun by yourself and unfortunately these hobbies we have are expensive". Baller BRY Posted April 1, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 1, 2016 If they seem competent I will let them drive my boat (with me in it or around), just a few I will actually loan it to. No one gets to use my ski. No one. All my other stuff, sure, just let me know.....
Baller gcam4 Posted April 1, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 1, 2016 I am very picky with my equipment but if I trust the individual and they understand my OCD then I don't have an issue letting them borrow things. Now I don't let anyone borrow my gloves and I cannot think of anyone ever borrowing my ski because I use Fogman's. I only let people I trust a lot to drive our boat, and that's with me or my wife skiing behind it! I think the biggest issue I have is when someone handles my ski to take a look at it. I will hover and monitor how they handle it to make sure they don't set it down wrong etc. My wife is the only one I don't have to hover over, she knows how bad my OCD is! Baller Waternut Posted April 3, 2016 Baller Share Posted April 3, 2016 I'll let just about any competent person pull me behind my boat in open water and I'll let anyone use my gear. The list narrows pretty fast though when I'm not around and there aren't that many people I trust to pull me through the course.
npenley
Everything I own is community property. I wouldn't have gotten into skiing and all things water related if it wasn't for the generosity of others. My boat will only be driven when I am in it or at the dock. My brother-in-law used the boat once and put it too far forward on a cradle lift. The I-beams got the strut and front tracking fin. I was stuck with the bill and only found out when my father-in-law tipped me off. He will not use the boat again while I am stuck working on a weekend.
