Baller ToddF Posted September 28, 2016 Baller Posted September 28, 2016 would changing or modifying the skeg's improve tracking. It seems easier than modifying a rudder
Baller PT Mike Posted September 28, 2016 Baller Posted September 28, 2016 When you say modify do you mean shaving it like they do to the rudder? When you shave a rudder besides producing some load on the steering i thought the added benefit was you take any slop out of the steering.
Baller rodltg2 Posted September 28, 2016 Baller Posted September 28, 2016 I recall a while back , folks were installing. " gorilla fins " on Malibu wakeboats. Supposedly improved tracking. Don't know much about it other than that.
Baller oldjeep Posted September 28, 2016 Baller Posted September 28, 2016 @rodltg2 Gorilla fins come on Malibu wake boats, nobody adds them. My VTX has them. They are a lot bigger than what is on a Response LXI but there are only 2 of them rather than the 3 on the response.
Baller ToddF Posted September 28, 2016 Author Baller Posted September 28, 2016 I was wondering if there were aftermarket skegs with more surface area, or canted or tilted to increase tracking, I think it would be easier to replace them vs. Sanding, shaving, or modifying a rudder
Baller oldjeep Posted September 28, 2016 Baller Posted September 28, 2016 Shaving the rudder - or just adjusting the tab if you have a modern rudder is to add steering preload. I guess that makes tracking better than neutral steering since it would stop it from darting back and forth. If you are looking for a way to change the steering preload without shaving the rudder I guess you could spend a lot of money and replace it with a current adjustable tab rudder. Installing a bent tracking fin isn't going to be a good thing. I suppose you could try to retrofit something like the Malibu gorilla fins but you would have to make sure that your trailer had enough clearance and that the mounting surface of your boat could stand up to the extra pressure they could exert
Baller skinonstop Posted September 29, 2016 Baller Posted September 29, 2016 Get (3) 50lb bags of shot sold by Wakeballast.com and place them near the windshield or under the passenger seat. Made a huge difference in tracking on my 2015 Prostar.
Baller_ The_MS Posted September 29, 2016 Baller_ Posted September 29, 2016 @skinonstop That is perfect way to ad an ankle breaker wake at 22/28 on that boat.
