Baller Kiwicouple Posted October 24, 2016 Baller Posted October 24, 2016 Hi I am on a 69.5 inch 2016 vapour and weigh 200 ponds and dropping. My 69.5 ski feels really good this week as I get ski fit. I use to ski on 68. I am considering an 68 inch Vapour probuild. I was wanting to start a discussion on ski lengths, vapour probuilds. How do you know if a ski is too long for you? Or too short for you?
Baller Stevie Boy Posted October 24, 2016 Baller Posted October 24, 2016 All sorts of variables here, speed, line length, maybe height, best way is to demo, see how the ski rides and turns, if you cannot demo then it's going to be a leap of faith, based on what others on this forum can advise, perhaps @Brooks can chip in or maybe send him a personal message, ideally you could do with the opinions of somebody similar Height and Weight skiing at a similar level, there has got to be somebody on this forum that can meet that criteria. Good Luck.
Baller Chef23 Posted October 24, 2016 Baller Posted October 24, 2016 At 200 lbs I think the 69.5 is big for you. If you are skiing max speed of 34 mph the 68 should have more than enough support.
Baller skidawg Posted October 24, 2016 Baller Posted October 24, 2016 I skied the 67 @ 200lbs, the 68 will feel much better than the 69
Baller Waternut Posted October 24, 2016 Baller Posted October 24, 2016 I think a lot of it depends on your skiing style. If you're a smooth and clean skier, the shorter ski will likely work well for you. If you move around a lot, having the extra support of a bigger ski may help you and be more forgiving/tolerant.
Baller Chef23 Posted October 25, 2016 Baller Posted October 25, 2016 At 230 lbs I skied the 2015 68" Vapor and even started at 32 mph early in the season with no problems. At 200 lbs I don't see a need for anything bigger than 68.
Baller Sethro Posted October 25, 2016 Baller Posted October 25, 2016 I'm 6'5" and 210-215lbs on the 69.5" Vapor at 34mph. I don't feel at all like it's too big, but I'd sure like to try the 68" just to see the difference. I also skied a few times out at 32mph nursing bruised ribs and it performed just as well at that speed.
Baller Kiwicouple Posted October 25, 2016 Author Baller Posted October 25, 2016 Thanks everybody that's commented. Makes me think I am on right track going back to 68.
Baller Chris Rossi Posted October 27, 2016 Baller Posted October 27, 2016 @Kiwicouple I would suggest a 68 Pro Build. The ski will be easier to turn at your hardest passes and will still be plenty fast to get you to the buoys on an early line. Chris
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted October 27, 2016 Baller_ Posted October 27, 2016 5' nothing (7") 195# 67" Lithium. ski works very well as I am not the prototype slalom skier. Stand on the back, jump up on the front, grip it and rip it it's seems to stay out in front of me and provides a great ride!
Baller MBlohm Posted October 27, 2016 Baller Posted October 27, 2016 I'm 5'11" 165-170Ibs Swede. Today on vapor alloy running 28off fairly consistent and started working on 32off. Don't seem impossible to succeed with the pass in the beginning of next season. Today I'm on a Vapor alloy 67" and will upgrade next year to a Pro Build. Shall I stick to the 67" or go down in size to 66"? 34mph skier.
Baller Hockdog Posted October 27, 2016 Baller Posted October 27, 2016 Stay on the 67, don't go shorter.
