Baller MR.D Posted November 22, 2016 Baller Posted November 22, 2016 I have recently received the fin whispering guide, very interesting stuff. My question is I am currently on a 2014 HO CX, which I love! However it doesn't have an adjustable fin. Should I get a syndicate adjustable fin? Will it fit? Should I just leave it alone? I currently ski 15 off @ 32mph. Thanks.
Baller gregy Posted November 22, 2016 Baller Posted November 22, 2016 Not sure about the fit but in my opinion I think it would be worth getting one. One of my skiing partners is on a Radar that has very limited adjustments. Her offside turn dumps her pretty regularly. I got some of it out by moving the bindings but if we could settle down that offside turn more consistency would go up.
Baller Wayne Posted November 22, 2016 Baller Posted November 22, 2016 I was on a 2013 Coefficent-X and swapped out the stock "3-position" fin for the Syndicate fin. Some things I noticed; 1) The stock fin cannot be "adjusted" to the recommended settings from HO. 2) The Syndacate fin is thinner, the lower drag is noticeable. I used the stock fin for 2 seasons before swapping it for the Syndacate version. I attached the HO fin numbers just for posterity, they were different for the regular and super lite versions. I don't have the numbers for the stock Coefficient-X fin but from memory it had more depth and less length than what the chart shows. I think the 3 position for distance from tail were 0.1 inch increments (memory is fuzzy though) and the "middle" DFT was close to the chart.
Baller_ lpskier Posted November 22, 2016 Baller_ Posted November 22, 2016 To some degree, you can adjust a non-adjustable fin by placing washers under the fin. Put the screw through the fin, then the washer, then into the ski. You can make the fin shorterand or shallower. Start with very thin washers. Lpskier
Administrators Horton Posted November 22, 2016 Administrators Posted November 22, 2016 @MR.D the Fin Whispering book is an amazing resource but if your primary goal is to advance your skiing I am not sure you are ready to change your fin settings. Skiing at 15 off @ 32mph means that your core skills are still developing. @SkiJay's book is something every slalom skier should own, read and contemplate but until your skills are at a higher level I can not encourage you to apply the lessons. On the other hand if you are intrigued with the hobby of fin and binding adjusting I can't stop you from going down that rabbit hole. Enjoy.
