Rudder offset(ProStar 190's)?

Was rudder offset built into the early 90's PS190's?(as viewed down the centerline of the boat, the rudder being a little to one side from the prop shaft line).

Mine is offset to the right just a little bit on my 91.

Interesting, thanks, were the reasons for this hydrodynamic? -or just to make it easier to remove or install the propeller drive shaft. Right as in starboard I take it??

When I sold MC's in the early to mid 90's, the factory rep said it was for ease of drive shaft removal in the event of a repair. We were also told to use this as a selling tool against CC's laser-aligned rudder/drive shaft technique, since you didn't need to drop the rudder to remove the shaft on the MC.

Yes however rudders are typically offset from props on inboards. Not only for the prop removal but it gets the prop out of the center of the prop wash for turbulence.

 

This is recommended in marine literature and is referenced in home boat building instructions.

Good information, thank you. I was definitely interested if it had any affect on the wake wash. On some inboard boats the prop wash seems to get thrown to the surface creating a hard wake. I assume the cut out at the top of the back of many a ski boat rudder is to help relieve this also(?) -although the illustration doesn't show the cut out.
