Baller swc5150 Posted December 11, 2017 Baller Share Posted December 11, 2017 Wow does that take balls of steel to get that close to the action! Best water ski pic I've seen in my 44 years on this planet.
Baller BraceMaker Posted December 11, 2017 Baller Share Posted December 11, 2017 @swc5150 Never have I been more convinced that this was another naked photo of Freddie...
Baller Skid Posted December 11, 2017 Author Baller Share Posted December 11, 2017 @swc5150 zoom is your friend! The scary part from these style of shots is having the rope catch your flash and rip the camera out of your hand and ruin your day. But yes, I was pretty close. @BraceMaker I would be running in the opposite direction
Baller BraceMaker Posted December 11, 2017 Baller Share Posted December 11, 2017 @Skid so zoom wouldn't be your friend in that scenario?
Baller Kelvin Posted December 11, 2017 Baller Share Posted December 11, 2017 I have some friends that dip the handle in the water on their onside turns. No way to get this shot of them.
Baller Skid Posted December 11, 2017 Author Baller Share Posted December 11, 2017 @Kelvin Judgment is the key. The first skier I ever shot from this angle was Whitney McClintock and even then I was super cautious.
Baller_ Wish Posted December 12, 2017 Baller_ Share Posted December 12, 2017 Don't know how he does it. Or any photographer on the inside of the buoy line. I've helped out on multiple photo shoots. Helps to have photographer of high caliber as a neighbor. Been on the inside like that once or twice holding a flash and once with a burning flare. Ducked/flinched every time the rope went over my head. Plus it looks like the skier is headed STRAIGHT for you as they connect and start heading your way. Freakish view to say the least. Much much much respect to those that capture these images. Even was lucky enough to have the opportunity to keep the rope over the photographers head in a photo shoot. That's sorta equally freaky as well. Bit of extra concentration to hold the handle UP. Great shot @Skid. That takes some serious nerves and focus to pull that off.
