Baller Srkin9 Posted May 10, 2018 Baller Share Posted May 10, 2018 I live in Cadillac MI, about an hour south of TC, I grew up free skiing my parents lake north of Grand Rapids and never had access to a course. I am looking to get into course skiing this year and was looking for any body on here from Grand Rapids to Traverse that has access to a course that wouldnt mind helping me out. Baller_ MISkier Posted May 10, 2018 Baller_ Share Posted May 10, 2018 @Srkin9, West Shore Water Ski Club has their site in Conklin, which is just West of GR. If you are interested in a club, that is one option. As for other courses on public lakes, we are a bit challenged on those, especially the last two years. Due to permit issues and various provisions for slalom courses on public lakes, it may cause some to not even install their courses this year. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears. Baller BraceMaker Posted May 10, 2018 Baller Share Posted May 10, 2018 Be cool to have a list of "public water courses" in Michigan really, I've heard there's one on the Thornapple near thornapple pointe golf course but water is hard to access
dhofert
I also am still looking for a course that is accessible and a ski partner. I know there is one on algonquin lake in hastings but that is a private lake.

Baller Srkin9 Posted May 10, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted May 10, 2018 @MISkier I wasnt really looking to join a club but with that being said I have no idea what joining a club entails.. How much does it cost, do i need my own boat, How much access do you get. I really am looking to just go out and ski a course with a couple people, hang out, and try to figure it out not under a tournament setting. Basically make it worth my drive to get more than just a couple passes
Baller_ MISkier Posted May 10, 2018 Baller_ Share Posted May 10, 2018 @Srkin9, I belonged to West Shore a few years ago and belong to other clubs now that are closer to my home. 1. All of the clubs to which I belonged have no restrictions on when you could ski. It is subject only to weather and availability of ski partners. West Shore does reserve Tuesday evenings for an informal ski league where all members compete with some very relaxed rules. 2. You do not need your own boat. West Shore now has a club boat. 3. I’ve spent many days just taking the passes and sets as I wanted. You can work on your issues and techniques. Of course, you can’t take a ton of passes with others waiting, but 6 is usually a good number per set. You can rotate in and out of sets as much as the daylight, weather, and ski partners can accommodate. 4. Hanging out and developing friendships was the best part. Talking skiing and relaxing at the dock is very common. 5. Club costs are likely in the $1500 to $2500 range, depending on if gas is included or is a separate, per set charge. Baller kurt Posted May 10, 2018 Baller Share Posted May 10, 2018 @Srkin9 if you want to just come try it out for a couple of sets I would be able to accommodate you . My lake is just south of Hudsonville , just PM me to see if I am available that night or skiing that night. I can fill you in on all the clubs in person then as well . First time just bring premium gas and we are all good!

Ckrueg
My family has a cottage on crystal lake in Frankfort MI. I know the past few years there is a couple courses on the lake. I was hoping to run them later this summer when I'm up there. Also there was a course on Murray lake in Lowell MI the past few years as well
Baller_ MISkier Posted May 11, 2018 Baller_ Share Posted May 11, 2018 Cedar Lake near TC is supposed to have a course. Talked to one of the course owners from Crystal Lake and he is not planning to install his course until the permit discussions with the DNR conclude. Baller BraceMaker Posted May 11, 2018 Baller Share Posted May 11, 2018 There's been one at the south end of Elk as well outside of TC for several years. But Elk is BIG water. Not as big as Torch but can be a hard cruise.
Baller_ MISkier Posted May 13, 2018 Baller_ Share Posted May 13, 2018 @BraceMaker, if people want to submit photos and lake names of public courses in Michigan, I believe they can be posted on the MWSA website here: http://www.mwsa.org/michigan-water-ski-sites/ There is a Contact Us page on the website.
