The Setup

I have been skiing long enough, so I am not sure I should ask this question, but I am going to and risk the Panda, I watch Pro Skiers and they have the ability to have width and just swing in under the line for their gates.

Now I do not have a problem getting width.

The problem I have with width is "A" I have nothing from the boat, I know I am not going to get anything from the boat until I am approx 45 Degrees.

"B" quite clearly at some point your speed is going to drop off and you are going to drop back which clearly is undesirable.

So Just how do they swing in under the line when there is little support from the boat, without losing width or dropping back on the boat.

Is it a timing thing, am I going to early when moving out.

@wish thanks , I did watch the Gate -Gut video a while a go, various people have been telling me to turn in slower, but the Pro,s seem to swing in quite fast without loading too early, there seems to be a diiference between, the likes of Brooke Baldwin, Will Asher and a fair few others, it doesn't look like the Gut-Gate, I may very well be wrong it just looks different to me.

I am running 1 degree shallower wing than factory and I still bleed speed, I do go hard and early for the setup, when I turn in I am too slow or it feels like I am.

@Stevie Boy ya, I hear ya but the principle in GUT gate are still there for all of them. At such a short line, the turn in happens rather quickly. But they all let the boat pull away (looks like falling back/slowing but they stay on the front of their ski to maintain speed), set the edge and let their COM lead the ski. With more weight on the front of the ski where it's supportive, the ski catches up to them in a heart beat. Us mortals tend to rock back slightly to initiate the ski to turn in..drag...and then our COM and ski move slowly together towards the gates where we pick up the load and lean for all we are worth...inefficient. All of the pros for most part pick up that load in the same place as well but with way more speed. It all happens fast.

Hi Guy,s I just want to share, I think I have the Gate thing worked out, as it is quite simple, call it what you want tense, anticipation or too much concentration, found out that if I stay super relaxed and be patient, Bam ! there you go just what you are looking for.

Ski swings in under the line through the back of the boat and up the other side as they say "Less Is More"
