Baller Mateo_Vargas Posted July 6, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 6, 2018 Based on the last couple of weeks they might get a lot of viewers if there was a webcast of the ropes being measured :)
Baller Stevie Boy Posted July 6, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 6, 2018 Nice Boat, nice to see a straight forward 200 for the competition it promotes how good the Nautique 200 is. No fancy bells and whistles I like it.
Ryno
@"Mateo Vargas" Hey mate, I noticed watching the Amateur feed the boat crew are clipping the rope length onto a short shock tube that stays attached to the pole. Does this add that 0.5m or so to the total length of the rope? Great work on the tournament mate... Wish I was there!
Baller Stevie Boy Posted July 6, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 6, 2018 Well Eat My Hat ! they are actually skiing behind a Malibu. If I stand against the wall, will somebody shoot me ! got that wrong.
Baller LeonL Posted July 6, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 6, 2018 What @Ryno asked. What's the deal with the carabiner and short piece of rope? That means that the actual rope is X amount short. Someone has had to manipulate a standard rope by taking out X amount. Seems weird to me. Too many variables. Short piece, carabiner, pieces that can become separated when verifying proper length. Problematic at best.
Baller Andre Posted July 6, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 6, 2018 Don't they remove the 41 loop when using the carabiner and rope? Edit:or use the 41 loop with the carabiner ? Edit2: Feed is great for me but could use a bit of ambient sound maybe...

Administrators Horton Posted July 6, 2018 Author Administrators Share Posted July 6, 2018 @ryno @leonl @Andre NOTHING wrong with the rope or rope length. They are using "switch ropes". The mainline is exactly 1/2 meter short and the section on the pylon including the carabiner is exactly 1/2 a meter long. That setup is designed to make it faster and easier to switch out the ropes between skiers without messing with the camera rig. Baller BraceMaker Posted July 6, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 6, 2018 @Horton I've looked at doing that for on our boat but always figured the carabiner would tear up the dog house.
Baller Dirt Posted July 6, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 6, 2018 I watched the Amateurs this morning. It looks like a great event. The webcast quality was excellent. I was able to watch it on a 55 inch without distortion. The skiers names and rope lengths in meters and feet off were on the screen before each pass. It looked like a Malibu and 19 Nautique. It was interesting to check out the on deck skiers setup between passes. Goode seemed to be the most popular. There were some Monte Carlos, Radar and at least one D3. I hope they continue this for the pro division. I like to see what they are using. @Luzz Thank you for all the hard work on this event.

Baller LeonL Posted July 6, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 6, 2018 I didn't know one could acquire a "switch rope". That been a dead dog for 10 years. Have to be special order.
Baller ntx Posted July 6, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 6, 2018 @LeonL a switch rope is nothing more than removing the last .75 meter segment of the rope and putting it attached to the pylon. No special order needed. You will gain the advantage of the length of the carbiner (maybe 2 inches) See @Horton comment above.
Baller Luzz Posted July 6, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 6, 2018 Thank you for watching everyone. Tony, Vince, and John (The Water Ski Broadcasting Company) are doing a phenomenal job!! Following up on the rope curiosity, we use ropes that are .5m shorter as we use a .5m "switch rope" at the pylon. As @horton alluded to, that first bit on the pylon is necessary for our camera system to work. My dad has been building these systems for a while, and the switch rope is necessary to control the trigger that moves the boat camera. This neutralizes the vibrations caused by the boat and allow for a clear picture of boat camera, which is good for webcast and also for judges. Starting with Jrs tomorrow at 8:30a (2:30a EST). Pro h2h finals on Sunday at 12:30p (6:30a EST). Ski coach at Jolly Ski, Organizer of the San Gervasio Pro Am (2023 Promo and others), Co-Organizer of the Jolly Clinics. Baller Luzz Posted July 7, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 7, 2018 Okay so the regular scoring software is a bit pointless when it comes to adapting to different formats (pretty solid with everything else). So, to sum it up: Our format is top 4 first round are through as h2h top seeds Top 4 second round are through as h2h bottom seeds Top seed picks either order or boat&driver combo (drivers stays in their boat). Bottom seed picks the remaining Bracket of 8, of 4, and of 2 Regarding the first two points, top seeds are Pigozzi, 2.5@41 Tgas 2@41 Neveu 2@41 Mechler 1.5@41 (earned after two run-offs vs Caruso) Bottom seeds are Descuns, 5@41 Asher 3@41 Winter, 2.5@41 Travers, 2@41 Just so that you guys can better interpret @horton 's screenshots  lots of solid moments of water skiing today. My favorite was the first h2h bracket of the Boys Jr Challenge. Pavlos' PB was 1.5@39, had not run 38 in tournament yet. Griffin (top seed) chooses 1st of the doc, runs 38… Pavlos backs it up. Griffin -> 3@39. Pavlos, 3@39! So Griffin goes through, but Pavlos is stoked with a PB and asking me if he is skiing again. "Sorry buddy, you had to beat the score". "Oh, it's okay. Score goes on the ranking tho, correct?" "Yep" "YEAH!". These boys were cheering on each other at the ends of the lake, pushing themselves and the sport. Even more hope that, if we all do our part, the sport of water skiing has a future. pregom
From time to time I noticed that in the lower right they show a gauge that seems to measure the force applied to the rope as a skier loads it through the course. For instance, around the 1:26:46 mark of today (saturday) recording, I saw ~200 kg. How high can that load go? Impressive!

Baller chris55 Posted July 10, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 10, 2018 @Luzz Just one question, why the women get a paycheck less than the men ? They work as hard as the men don't they ?
Chad_Scott
@chris55 Probably has to do with the number of men’s entries versus number of women

Baller chris55 Posted July 10, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 10, 2018 But still, it would be fare to put all the entree fee together and split even between the men and the women. That is what I would do
Baller Than_Bogan Posted July 10, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 10, 2018 @chris55 In what way would that be fair? Overcoming a larger field is generally a larger challenge, which would "fairly" be associated with a larger award. Even if we look at this from a purely socialist standpoint, and we give an equal amount to each entrant regardless of performance, then we've just given more money to the men's side (because there are more of them). Baller BraceMaker Posted July 10, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 10, 2018 @chris55 seriously doubt most of those checks came from exclusively from entry fees.
Baller ALPJr Posted July 10, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 10, 2018 I asked myself that same question. Some equivalency would be nice. Nevertheless, I think it's one of the best Pro events, ever. Baller igkya Posted July 10, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 10, 2018 @chris55 Is it fair to give those that ski at 34mph the same winnings as those that ski at 36mph? Or does everyone get a trophy?

Baller Luzz Posted July 10, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 10, 2018 Thank you all for the nice words ;) @chris55 just going by the Elite Ranking Rules. No doubt that Pro W work as hard as Pro M, but it seems that the differences in purse is a reflection (on average) of the difference in entries. Symbolically, we have entries at €250 for Pro M and €220 for W. Ski coach at Jolly Ski, Organizer of the San Gervasio Pro Am (2023 Promo and others), Co-Organizer of the Jolly Clinics. Baller DaveD Posted July 12, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 12, 2018 I think we all wish all waterski webcast are run that well. Being totally clueless on webcast technology, was the quality of the picture an indication of better internet service or superior equipment and computers? By the way, the one announcer's mic was all messed up. I could understand anything he was saying.
Baller Luzz Posted July 12, 2018 Baller Share Posted July 12, 2018 @DaveD Thank you for the compliments. @TonyLightfoot and Vincent Stadlbaur do a superb job, delivering a professional and enjoyable product. I'm sure they can speak more in detail about what it takes, but I know they have equipment of the highest quality. That is, a computer specifically build to handle all the cameras and transmissions they need; professional cameras with really good quality; transmitters and receivers, which are the tough part of it all; and, a decent internet. San Gervasio is in farm land, so we have to get DSL signal from a town about 3-mile away. However, we have been able to get a 9 Mbps down and 3 Mbps up, which has allowed for a 720p stream.
