Vl782
Hey everyone, Long story short our family lost our 02 Moomba Mobius LS to a garage fire in April and we have been searching ever since. We have 3 children under 6 years old and originally I had my heart set on a 13-15' VTX but not sure we are willing to spend that yet. We are a Slalom first family however we don't have access to a course and we surfed when we had enough weight in the Moomba and enjoyed that and then wakeboard on occasion. Obviously with young kids we will tube and do all the "kid stuff" too. As for ski wake I have only been behind our Moomba and my buddy has a prostar 197 and I typically ski 35mph 28-32 off. Initially I wanted a vdrive and for the layout and to surf easier but again I have never even set foot on one so I don't know what I don't know and the DD setup never bothered us, and I'm not sure I'm willing to give up the ski wake. Anyway I have been really looking into 03-04 Sunsetter LXI with the MLS thats in good shape but they seem impossible to find and I recently started looking into the Response LXI and found a 2010 that looked a little roomier than the preceding models. Lastly I found a good looking MC x14 DD on ski it again but I know nothing of the boat and it has gotten mixed reviews. I like the idea of something with a little higher freeboard with young kids and something that wont take water over the bow every time a surf boat goes by. Price range is around 30k. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Baller 6balls Posted July 13, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 13, 2020 You can get a VTX older than '13 with all the same ballast options. Just will need a mission delta wake shaper to add to augment wake surfing--not very expensive.
Baller Wayne Posted July 13, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 13, 2020 I would not weigh down any model Response for surfing, especially with kids on board. They just don’t have enough freeboard for it. I agree with 6balls, older VTX (make sure it has a diamond hull, the wake hull is NOT skier friendly). You could also look for a Sunscape 20 LSV, it’s the VTX without the “wakesetter” graphics, usually no tower and usually no ballast. It’s still a fantasy crossover for a skiing family. The Sunsetter LXI is also a great choice but you could also look for a Sunscape 21 LSV. It’s kind of the v-drive version of the Sunsetter LXI but the ski wake quality is not as good as the VTX/20LSV. Baller_ DW Posted July 13, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted July 13, 2020 Given a slalom first family, prioritize skiing behind a non DD or tournament approved boat before you commit to have full understanding on skiing experience.
Vl782
Any thoughts on Ski Nautique 216 and if so which year for best slalom wake.
Baller UWSkier Posted July 13, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 13, 2020 At the speed and line lengths you indicated, the VTX will ski 95% as well as the 197. If you plan on doing a ton of teaching of your kiddos to ski though at boat speeds around 26 MPH or so, you will not like the VTX. Below 30 MPH, any V drive wake starts getting quite large. Everything is a matter of trade-offs. There's no such boat as one that produces world class slalom wakes at all speeds and great surf wakes with V drive seating. Baller blakeyates Posted July 20, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 20, 2020 I would look for a Nautique 206 or maybe the 216; not sure which year. The 206 is one foot shorter so it should have the better wake since it would weigh less.
