darosman
Hey all - my wife is 5'7" open water skier at 32-33 cuts hard one handed. Has always used the family ski which is probably suited to bigger people. Wanted to buy her one for her birthday. What's the ski?
Baller Garn Posted July 14, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 14, 2020 I would strongly recommend the HO Omni or the Carbon Omni. I think it is the most amazing and versatile skis available. Because of its design with the rear clean-edge, it has so less drag than the other skis on the market. This makes it fast and effortless to get outbound width. But it also makes it so much easier on the body and less tiring to ski. In a nutshell, if she free skis, she skis longer. It also makes it a breeze to get up on. But man, can it perform. You want to crank turns, it will turn! At 32-33 mph and the way you described her, she sounds like an aggressive skier. So I would probably recommend the Carbon Omni. darosman
Awesome. Thanks... my uneducated googling is finding lyric/graphite and the vapor/graphite. how would you compare the HO to these? Also - is 65 the right length?
Baller Garn Posted July 14, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 14, 2020 Radar is a great ski. But I swear by the Omni. I feel it has features that other skis just don't have. As for the length, its a matter of weight and speed. So it depends on what your wife weighs. But unless she is really on the heavy side, or the very light side, probably a 65". darosman
Ok - you are an awesome source of info so i will dig in. I found a great deal on the syndicate VTR. How does that fit in? (I'm hearing you on the carbon omni though!)
Baller Garn Posted July 14, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 14, 2020 The VTR is, if I remember right, a 2016 ski. It was a great ski. I actually skied on it for a season. Its might be more ski than she needs but she would probably really like it. It was HO's top tournament ski that year. Its not the Omni, but its a great ski. It will have more drag than the Omni because of who it was designed for. But if she skis at 32-33, she should be just fine on it. Is it new or used? Baller Ali Posted July 14, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 14, 2020 @darosman any video of your wife skiing, will give a better idea of the level of skier, also how much she weighs will help decide on size of ski.
Baller ISP6ball Posted July 14, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 14, 2020 I would shy away from the VTR. Radar Lyric and Senate are great options. I would stick with the graphic series for the adjustable fin if she plans on advancing in performance.
darosman
Leaning towards the Lyric Graphite now... trying to figure out comparison with that versus omni and then vapor....
Baller gsm_peter Posted July 14, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 14, 2020 Buy her a ski trip to a resort and buy the ski when training and trying it out. Win win deal =0)
lakeside7455
Women's Connelly Aspect is a great ski for her. My wife loves it.
Baller Minelickskier Posted July 16, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 16, 2020 Well my wife loves her 2016 pink vapor. Bought it on ski it again, then we got new pink vectors for it. I think she loves skiing more than me...
Baller Minelickskier Posted July 16, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 16, 2020 Also, beware of anyone asking for videos of your wife...just sayin
Martin1980
@darosman The Radar Lyric is also a great ski but if you have your wife demo it and the Omni you will know for sure. The Omni is the only ski with clean edge technology which reduces drag by 50% and increases acceleration, it is a game changer for a hybrid width crossover shaped ski that is very capable in the course. Baller DaveD Posted July 18, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2020 Show her pictures of each ski and ask her to pick the one she likes. Make sure you buy binding that color match.
