elrob
Hello all. I have been using this forum over the past few days to try and diagnose and fix our 2002 Centurion Elite V with a PCM 330. Long story short, my dad bought this boat new in 2002 and we used it almost daily during ski season until around 2014. At that point the boat boat started having issues running consistent. Fast forward to 2016 and no real progress, in and out of the shop, lots of failed lake days and tows back to the dock, my dad gave up, basically refused to spend any more money on it and threw the cover on where it has sat until last week. I decided to start working on the boat to get it back to its former glory, this is where we are today: Replaced alternator Changed impeller replaced all relays checked fuses tested fuel pump (both) new distributor cap and rotor changed oil and filter After all this, I cannot get the boat to idle or run on its own. I can pour some fuel down the throttle body and it will fire on what is there, but will not fire on its own. I have pull the fuel rails and checked the injectors. I can hear the IAC moving when the ignition is turned on. What am I missing? It almost seems as though the injectors are not giving fuel to the cylinders. The only cause of that would be the ECM. But the ECM is working in some capacity to be able to control the fuel pump and IAC. What am I missing? Any help is appreciated. And yes, I checked the safety switch, it is functioning properly. The engine will not even power when it is disconnected.
Baller Zman Posted July 18, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2020 What sort of fuel filter does this boat use? Checked it? Is the fuel pump in the tank, or external?
elrob
It has a FCC. built in to the high pressure pump. So external. All good there. showing good fuel pressure as well.
Baller_ Rednucleus Posted July 18, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted July 18, 2020 If it was my 5.7 chevy of that vintage I would say change the ICM; earlier years were in the distributor, no idea on your motor but when you say it will run if fuel is added to throttle body, that was a common diagnostic sign for me. elrob
@Jody_Seal seems to be the resident expert on these motors and ECMs with the MEFI 4 from what I’ve read. Any insight to check something other than the ecm at this point?
elrob
@Rednucleus i think I’m at the point that I’m willing to try just ab anything.
Baller Andre Posted July 18, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2020 If it run with fuel in the throttle body that mean the ICM is good cause you got spark. What you seems to miss is fuel... My ski finish in 16.95 but my ass is out of tolerance!
elrob
@Andre i agree. But fuel is good. Pressure is good. Even checked the rails and injectors. They are good and flowing.
Baller Andre Posted July 18, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2020 Do you smell fuel? Are the plugs wet ? Rails? Is it a Throttle Body Injection or a Multi Port Injection ? My ski finish in 16.95 but my ass is out of tolerance!
elrob
Plugs not wet. No fuel smell. Multi port injection.
elrob
When I said the fuel is flowing I meant the rails. The injectors are clean.
Baller skier2788 Posted July 18, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2020 @elrob my money would be on a crankshaft position sensor. If the ECM doesn't see a signal it won't fire the injectors. If you want to do some diag. Before buying the sensor to confirm the Injectors are not firing with a noid light. Pretty sure oreilly and other parts stores have them in the rent a tool
Baller DanE Posted July 18, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2020 Probably not a crankshaft sensor as it has ignition sparks. Either a wiring problem to the injectors or a faulty ECM.
elrob
I thought the cps as well. And even the oil pressure sensor. But I have spark. I talked to mefi burn and I’m going to send it in first thing Monday for diagnosis. I will update my findings.
elrob
**** UPDATE**** just spoke with Bob at OBD Diagnostics and he told me that both fuel banks were fried. Not functioning at all. He told me he could also see that they were functioning intermittently before, so this would explain why some days the boat would be fine and run without issue, and other days it would not. Looks like im on the hunt for a new MEFI 4. If anyone has one in good shape for sale please let me know.
Baller skier2788 Posted July 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 24, 2020 @elrob I should have the one you need. Pulled it off my 02 196 with the pcm 330 when I converted to ZO. Let me know we can make sure it's what you need

elrob
The boat ran great after getting the new MEFI 4 from @skier2788. Ran into a couple issues later in the summer 2020 with the v drive. Had serviced and all good from there. Thanks to everyone on this forum that helped out.
Baller 2Valve Posted April 26, 2022 Baller Share Posted April 26, 2022 Same motor in my '02 MB. Only issue I've had was an intermittent ignition coil failure. Glad you got it sorted out. They're pretty simple motors (electronics) once you figure out how they work.
