Baller PatrickStar72 Posted August 30, 2023 Baller Posted August 30, 2023 Hi, quick question. I finally got a new ski off ski-it-again, and I ordered new stance 130 bindings for it, however when my order said it was delivered, much to my dismay it was only the rear binding. Apparently the front are all sold out for the rest of the season. I am skiing this week and I don't have time to go find other matching sets. I do have a Connelly Tempest front binding I could use. So I could put a tempest in the front and the stance 130 in the back and just wait until I can get a matching set. I just had 2 questions on this: #1. Is it taboo to ski with 2 different brands? Is it ok to temporarily use 2 different ones? #2. Will it be bad for the ski to swap out the front one more than once? (for the screw holes) Thank you,
Baller dave2ball Posted August 30, 2023 Baller Posted August 30, 2023 @PatrickStar72 no it’s not taboo to place2 different brands of binding on a ski. It’s don’t 90% of the time. The only issue would be to make sure the hole pattern match up and you measure the binding in the correct. Go to your ski’s web site for measurements. it will not hurt the ski at all to pull off the bindings. As long as you don’t strip or over tighten the screws in the inserts. When your new front boot comes in just swap the front boot out and you will be good to go.
Baller_ MISkier Posted August 30, 2023 Baller_ Posted August 30, 2023 Many people mix and match binding brands and types (I see Reflex hardshell front bindings and rubber Wiley rear bindings frequently). Make sure each is a proper fit and will release in a crash as you expect - together. Removing/changing bindings frequently is not an issue for the inserts, but I would recommend avoiding power tools to do so and watch how much you tighten the screws (as @dave2ball said). The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller BraceMaker Posted August 30, 2023 Baller Posted August 30, 2023 Wade Cox calls non-matching gear cross dressing. My front hardshell is a boot on another brand's release plate with another company's rear on a ski from another company using liners from a different brand all together my vest comes from a different brand and the gloves I use match my rear boot but not my ski or my vest. Unless someone is paying you to use their stuff use what fits and feels good.
Baller PatrickStar72 Posted August 30, 2023 Author Baller Posted August 30, 2023 Thanks for your advice all. Just put the tempest on. I was worried at first because the screw holes didn't line up 100% so I thought it was a no-go, but when I put it back over my Connelly ski it came from, it didn't match up either when you hover it over. I guess it just flexes a tiny bit. Went on pretty easy no stripping I don't believe. Thanks again!
Baller jjackkrash Posted August 30, 2023 Baller Posted August 30, 2023 Who knows, it might make you a world champion.
Baller_ aupatking Posted August 31, 2023 Baller_ Posted August 31, 2023 Front boot plates are now universal. Look at the Radar Vector boot. It’s almost identical to the stance 130. I have a Vector on a ski I teach people with and I really like it. I prefer the aluminum plate over the “feather frame” plastic but don’t know that there’s any performance difference. They are also in stock 😎. As was said earlier, brand doesn’t matter. Comfort and how well you ski on it does
